About Michael

I am a mechanical engineer with 6 years of experience in industry. My work has been centered around controls and instruments used in all area of testing, with a specific focus on testing jet engines.

My tutoring experience began in high school, tutoring fellow students. I worked as a tutor in college at the University of Kentucky. I tutored several subjects from algebra, calculus, physics to engineering classes. I enjoy helping students understand difficult subjects and experiencing the accomplishment that comes when the student succeeds.

I am also a middle school boys basketball coach, with 4 years experience doing that. So I have experience interacting with a wide range of students. I am Virtus certified.

I have yet to find a math subject that I could not understand fully. I feel I am equipped to tutor basic math all the way through Calculus 4. I specialize in standardized math testing (ACT, SAT).

I am easy to work with and will put my full effort into helping you succeed as a math student in any way that I can.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Mechanical Engineering degree with a GPA of 3.7 in 2012.
I received a full scholarship for my score on the ACT, in which I scored a 35 on ACT Math.
Very good problem solving skills and I can help teach you how to score high on the ACT.

Algebra 1

I consider myself an expert in algebra. In school, I was always in the advanced classes, often learning the subject with students that were 3 and 4 years older than me. Algebra is the basis for many advanced math subjects and I am experienced in helping students learn these fundamentals.

Basketball

I am 27 years old. I have played basketball all my life. Multiple leagues in grade school and was a varsity high school starter. I currently coach middle school basketball, 4 years doing that. I watch 5+ basketball games a week during the season.

Elementary Math

I have a degree from the University of Kentucky in Mechanical Engineering and have about 15 years of educational experience centered around math. I have tutored elementary students plenty of times in my life and have experience with teaching all grades. I am aptly trained to teach elementary math.

Football

I played football in high school. At 27 years old, the only time I play now is in a flag football league in the fall. I watch plenty of college and NFL games during their seasons. I am very knowledgeable about the rules.

Golf

I am an avid golfer. I have been since about 8 years old. I played varsity golf in high school. I still play 2 times a week in the Cincinnati area, when the weather is good. I am a 10 handicap. I watch golf almost every week. I am very knowledgeable about technique and the rules.

Mechanical Engineering

I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Mechanical Engineering degree with a GPA of 3.7 in 2012. I passed the FE Exam, which is a 4 hour long exam that tests your Fundamental Engineering skills. Passing this exam is a requirement to becoming a Professional Engineer, currently my designation is EIT. Engineer in Training. During college and since graduation, I have been working in industry as a mechanical engineer using my skills I learned in college. I have worked for Trane Company and GE Aviation. I recently took the Bennett Mechanical Test for a job and scored a 61/68 on the test. In college I tutored fellow engineering students as part of the Tau Beta Pi engineering fraternity. I also tutored for the academic enhancement center which helped those students with financial aid scholarships to maintain the proper grades to keep their scholarships. I tutored many of these students in engineering subjects as well.

Microsoft Excel

I am an Advanced level, experienced user.
I can help you understand excel from simple in cell functions to creating Macros using VBA.

Poker

I have played poker since about the 5th grade. Almost 20 years. I have experience playing in both cash games and tournament poker. I know many variations of the game, with the most experience in Texas Hold'em and Caribbean stud. I know all the rules and have the experience to teach someone how to play.

Table Tennis

There is not much to table tennis. If you know how to play tennis, you can play this. I have been actively playing this for 20+ years. I know the rules and have competed in some competitions. I am no professional, but I could certainly teach someone the rules and show them how to play.
