I successfully wrote a grant through the department of energy designed to attract women and minorities into the math and science fields. My students were on the internet before the internet became the success it has now become. All were connected from our school to Cray Supercomputers located at Sandia National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, USA.
I have several publications from personal research in biology and the environmental sciences that have been published in recognized national and international scientific journals. I have worked as a professional environmental scientist/biologist on a Federal Wildlife Refuge; researching fish, aquatic invertebrates, amphibian, water chemistry testing and analysis, and use of radioactive cobalt-60 tags research at Eastern Kentucky University in Appalachia and Mammoth Cave National Park, KY; doing research on birds, mammals, lizards, amphibians, aquatic invertebrates and terrestrial invertebrates and vegetation studies as part of a long-term desert biome ecosystem research. I taught course sections in general biology, ecology and herpetology at Eastern Kentucky University and New Mexico State University to undergraduate students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
