James is a very patient tutor who is good at helping the learner to identify and work on their weak points. He is flexible on meeting times and places, and generally punctual. His knowledge of the subject matter is excellent, and is able to answer most questions that I have, with later follow-up on the rest. I'm working with James on Japanese, as an adult learner, and and very satisfied with my progress to date.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have experience as a writing tutor at Marshall University. This includes both lower level writing concerns such as spelling and grammar, as well as upper level concerns such as composition and paragraph structure. I focus on improving students' understanding of upper level concerns and overall comprehension of the writing process.
I have four years of ESL teaching experience on the Elementary School and Adult levels in Asago City, Japan. In that time, I was responsible for rewriting the city's curriculum and training new teachers. My lessons focus on vocabulary and simple conversion exercises for the Elementary level, and on grammar and advanced conversation for the adult level.
