I have taught Elementary Education for the past 18 years. I love teaching and using new innovative ideas with my students. Some avenues of learning we explore are Prezi, Storybird, Powerpoint, etc. These are free websites which students can use to create a product.
I believe that students need to take ownership in their schoolwork in order to create within themselves a lifelong love of learning. Hands-on activities are the most engaging, and such opportunities to be creative also spur continued learning and investigation.
These are some of the activities and ideas I use with a whole class and individual students. Learning should be active for all ages! Let the learning continue. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master of Christian Education degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. I have been a Bible Student personally, in my church and with Bible Study Fellowship for the past 35 years. I have also taught Bible classes in Costa Rica and Argentina where we lived 1 and 7 years respectfully. For the past 31 years my husband and I have worked in all areas of church teaching, he is a pastor.
I have taught in Tennessee and Kentucky public Schools for the past 18 years. I hold a Tennessee and Kentucky certification to teach, 1-8 grades, special education pk-12, and library science all grades.
I have taught Saxon Phonics for two years. I used ABeka Phonics when I home-schooled my daughters. Phonics has been part of most of the curriculum I have taught the past 18 years.
