About Katie

Hello! My name is Katie, and I am an experienced tutor who is very passionate about the activity. My philosophy behind tutoring is that you don't just need to learn the material, but you also need to gain the confidence needed to apply the knowledge to various different avenues--whether it be in the classroom, the workforce, or just in your day-to-day life!

I don't look at this as just a way to make some extra money. I truly want to see students succeed and grow their minds in relation to these subjects. I am a firm believer that you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to. If you are one of the millions of students who are struggling to understand key concepts in one of the subjects I have listed, I urge you to contact me. I will work with you as much as I possibly can to ensure that you gain the knowledge and confidence that you need--and that your grades start to reflect it! :)

If you want to take the time to read on, I will go into more detail about my tutoring experience and what subjects I am comfortable tutoring.

I have a bachelor's degree in accounting, and am currently working towards my MBA degree while also working as an online tutor with my university. I currently have several years of tutoring experience at the middle school, high school, and college level. Subjects I have tutored include accounting, business, economics, finance, math, English, ACT prep, and more. I am also currently an assistant debate coach with my college's debate team, and I also coach swimming on the side. One of my biggest passions in life is to help people reach the goals they have made for themselves.

Math is one of the subjects that I have the most experience in as a tutor. It was always my absolute favorite subject in school as well. To me, numbers make sense in a way that other subjects don't. Math classes that I am comfortable tutoring include pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry, college math, college algebra, and pre-calculus.

I feel as though grammar is one of the most important skills you can have in life. No matter what career you go into or where you go, being able to adequately communicate your thoughts on paper can go a long way towards reaching your goals. I have a great strategy for the ACT English section that earned me a 34 two times in a row when I was in high school. I scored high enough that I didn't even have to take college English. And as we all know, the more classes you can test out of in college, the more time and money you will save in the long run!

I have several years of business tutoring experience in several different disciplines. I also received my bachelor's degree in the accounting field and will be receiving an MBA degree with accounting and marketing concentrations this coming December. I am extremely comfortable with all levels of accounting, economics, finance, statistics, business theory, marketing, and more!

Thanks for reading :) I hope to hear from you! And if not, good luck with your hunt for the perfect tutor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

I am a current graduate student working on my accounting master's degree. I have a bachelor's in accounting from a top school, where I received a 4.0 GPA in all accounting courses. I also have just under 4 years worth of experience tutoring college-aged students in a variety of accounting and other business subjects.

ACT English

I have several years of experience teaching all forms of ACT prep, but English is definitely one of my favorites. I do very well with finding study schedules and creating study guides that work with each student's unique needs and goals. I have a plan that is carefully developed that includes all of the rules that are commonly tested on the ACT English test. The same plan helped me to earn a score of 34 on my ACT test in high school two times in a row. I can also proudly say that out of all of the ACT students I have ever tutored, none of them have came back without an increased score. I would love to be given the chance to take on the challenge of helping you meet your goals on the ACT English test.

ACT Math

I have many years worth of ACT prep tutoring under my belt, and math is my favorite subject to tutor. I have a knack for creating flexible study guides that fit well with each student's unique needs while also including every concept that the ACT math section regularly tests. I scored in the 30s when I took the ACT back in high school, and I can proudly say that every ACT student I have ever helped has scored higher after tutoring than their previous scores.

Algebra 1

I have many years of experience in tutoring algebra students in many different age groups. I feel very comfortable explaining material in a way that includes real life examples and applications of the subject. I feel that my technique allows better retention by the student overall.

Business

I currently have a bachelor's degree in accounting, which also includes all of the same core classes as business administration majors need to take. I am also only a couple of classes short of gaining my MBA degree with an accounting and marketing concentration. I have also tutored in this subject for almost four years now.

Career Development

I have worked for the past several years a tutor and adviser for college-aged students. A big part of my job is helping students who are about to graduate get a head start on finding career options in whatever field they are interested in joining. I have a ton of experience with creating effective resumes, cover letters, interview skills, ways too find jobs in your area, networking skills, and more.

Elementary Math

I have experience in elementary math tutoring including kindergarten students. I have a passion for the subject and love to help others gain confidence with numbers as well. I feel that math is one of the most important building block for students of all ages, no matter what their academic goals are.

Geometry

I have always been a wiz when it comes to geometry tutoring and can very effectively come up with different study plans that can benefit every student's unique needs and goals. I find that a subject such as geometry is all about practice, practice, and more practice until you can fully understand all of the concepts and formulas that are used.

Marketing

I have prior experience tutoring this subject, mostly at the collegiate level. I am currently working towards an MBA with accounting and marketing concentrations, and have taken several marketing classes at both the undergrad and graduate levels. I love the subject of marketing because of its real-world applicability, and I feel as if it is a subject in which everyone can benefit from gaining exposure to it.

Microsoft Excel

I have around 8 years of experience working with all sorts of MS Office applications. I currently have a bachelor's degree in accounting, and am working towards completing my MBA degree this fall. If there's one thing you learn in accounting school, it's how to use Excel! I have several years worth of experience with tutoring the program as well, and have a great system in place for helping students get more comfortable with the program.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have many years of experience using all forms of MS Office in school, work, and beyond. I have also spent the past several years as an online tutor for college-aged students who are going for business-type degrees. I have a lot of working knowledge of PowerPoint. I was solely responsible for creating a PowerPoint presentation that was used by my university's president at a national accreditation meeting.

Proofreading

I have experience proofreading at the collegiate level in many different disciplines and writing formats. I also have a ton of editing experience of documentation for public use, along with different analytical reports. I am comfortable working with students that aren't native English speakers, and I can be very patient with helping them improve their skills to be successful.

Public Speaking

This is a subject that I would very much love to tutor. The major qualification that I have for this subject is my extensive background doing forensic speech teams and debate. During college, I spent several years on our school's debate team and even won multiple awards at the national level for my speaking ability. Since graduating, I have been an assistant coach for the same team aiding students in learning the art of competitive speech and debate. Our team is nationally ranked. Coaching this team has given me a ton of experience with teaching others techniques for speaking effectively and with confidence.

Swimming

My main qualifications for tutoring this wonderful sport are that I spent many years as a swim team coach and an instructor for younger kids who were just learning. My experience ranges from 2 and 3 year olds who are just learning all the way up to high school competitive teams. I swam myself for many years, and also was a lifeguard for around 7 years. I also have experience teaching water aerobics, water yoga, and more.
