I realize that I am one of many private math tutors online, so I appreciate you taking the time to read how I can help you or your student succeed. I have developed pre-tests covering material from kindergarten through calculus so I can target the specific skills required for success and teach independent learning strategies.

I believe it is imperative for students to have a solid foundation in math and reading, so I am offering a steep discount to $30/hr on math through algebra 1 and English through 8th grade in order to be your choice in affordable tutors online. Furthermore, Feel free to message me or schedule a free video call (not a lesson) to agree upon specific, measurable, and realistic goals to guide the lessons going forward. My general recommendation is for elementary students and those with learning differences to limit sessions to 30 minutes with increased frequency if needed.

I am currently preparing my application for certification as an intermediate level tutor through the National Tutoring Association and I have completed certificates of study in students and learning theories, time management and productivity, as well as ADHD through the Institute for Challenging Disorganization. I am currently licensed as a substitute teacher in the states of Missouri and Kansas and will have my Missouri teaching license when I finish my PhD in computational biology at the University of Kansas this fall. I received a Bachelor of Art degree in chemistry from New Mexico State University.

Computer Science,

Computer Science

I attempted a double major during my undergraduate in chemistry and computer science, but it was too much taking upper-division classes in both subjects simultaneously so I ended up a couple of credits shy of a computer science degree. Still, as a PhD student attempting to find computationally efficient methods for structurally modeling part of a cell I have retained lots of experience in linked lists, hashing, and C/C++ programming. Since every computer science class focuses on different languages, my emphasis will be on reinforcing the basics such as classic data structures and algorithms.

I am a native US English speaker and I have received special instruction from Bridge in teaching English to young children, children, teens, and adults. I am comfortable teaching academic English skills, but students will struggle taking literature and composition classes above the middle school level until they reach the C1 CEFR level. Finally, I am working on improving my understanding of diverse cultures so I can give instruction in a culturally appropriate manner.

Elementary Education

Common Core,

Common Core

Missouri is a state that has adopted the Common Core standards. I have passed multiple Missouri subject exams. However, there are still state specific differences in the implementation so I will look up the correct standards for your particular state.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I just took a course on the model building component of the Singapore math strategy which helps students learn how to approach word problems in a more hands-on way. The Common Core standards place a heavy emphasis on teaching how to make 10 using blocks and other physical manipulatives as early as kindergarten. As a chemist, I can also teach unit conversions and measurement.
Elementary Science,

Elementary Science

Elementary science is really about allowing children to explore the world. There will need to be considerable parental oversight at this stage, but you can teach a lot with minimal cost and time. For example, a well-mannered dog could be offered a dog biscuit or kibble and the child can record the dog's preference.
Homeschool,

I am licensed as a substitute teacher in Missouri and Kansas. I am working on my intermediate tutoring certification through the National Tutoring Association. I have passed teaching exams in Missouri ranging from elementary through high school in a variety of subjects. I can align my teaching to whatever standards you wish and I can either cover topics not taught in public education or skip over topics you have personal objections to.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

I have completed webinars through the National Tutoring Association on learning preferences and cognitive theory besides the skills required for licensure as a Missouri educator. I was the captain of the Science Bowl team in high school where I had to cover a vast variety of topics using only one 30 minute lunch period per week. Finally, I have taken continuing education courses from Kennesaw State University on how to help students with disabilities which can help any student study better.

Physical science is typically a middle school level subject combining chemistry and physics, so as someone with a BA in chemistry and doctoral research in biophysics I am well familiar with both. Under the alternative route to teaching in Kansas, chemistry is an acceptable major for seeking licensure in physical science. In high school, my pretest score for physical science was so high I was immediately promoted to chemistry.

I always recommend students start with the official practice test as it gives them an idea of how questions are asked and it reveals content that needs review. This strategy has allowed me to pass each exam with around 4 hours of preparation time, but this will depend on the student's existing level of familiarity with the content.

Knowledgeable and patient

Nathan was able to help me with everything I needed and was very patient which was helpful since I can be a slow learner. Even in one session, we were able to accomplish a lot

Nathan helped me out and introduced me to new useful things

Nathan helped me to better understand the relationship between Wordpress and the Woocommerce plug in, taught me about shortcode, and introduced me to a solution option for the checkout issue I'm trying to solve. He's a knowledgable guy who helped me out. Much appreciated.

BEST TUTOR EVER. CONCISE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE.

i had a total of 4 chemistry tutors just through wyzant. 2 of them were older and definitely knew what they were talking about, but they rambled on and on about minutia and details that don't matter and end up wasting a lot of time- very frustrating as the student and person paying for their time. my third tutor was a college kid who didn't know how to answer anything. my last tutor, Nathan, was VERY good at communicating before hand, explaining problem sets, preparing for the actual session, allocating time for each problem, creating an itinerary for the session, being flexible with time, admitting when he's not 100% sure and doesn't want to lead me astray (happened with like one question which 2 tutors didn't know either). I wish I met nathan 3 years ago and maybe I wouldn't have taken chem 2, 3 times lol. I can't recommend nathan enough. such good tips that were clear, concise, didn't even know I needed it, and never wasted time to tell me. honestly I can't even believe he only charges $70.
