About Michael

Bio

I have a Master's in Computer Science and a Bachelor's in Mathematics. While attending Arizona State I tutored classmates in programming classes, history, English, and Mathematics. I also set up a Math class in Baghdad for fellow Soldiers to freshen up on math skills in preparation for entrance exams and returning to school. On occasion I have also tutored co-workers' high school children. Presently, I'm beginning to instruct my own children in Mathematics and reading.

I enjoy tutoring and instructing, especially in that moment when everything clicks for the the students.

My favorite subjects are Mathematics, Programming, Chemistry, Physics, History, and English Grammar (the structured part of English).

I have always been adept at crunching numbers and solving equations, which is why I chose Mathematics as my major for my Bachelor's degree. Of the classes I've taken Algebra, Geometry, Linear Algebra, Dif.Eq., Combinatorics, Probability, Statistics, and Calculus are much preferred over less concrete Mathematics such as Topology, Abstract Algebra, and Number Theory. But a solid grasp of Set Theory goes along way and establishes a solid foundation for the abstract.

Math Structures covered Set Theory as well as Boolean logic, truth tables, and the basics of proofs. This was an excellent subject to prepare one for either rigorous Mathematics, Computer Programming, or Philosophy as the logic structures are the same, just applied slightly differently.

I would love to dive back into Mathematics, and the best way is to teach others and help them solve their own math problems. I am also a proficient and adaptable programmer and have programmed Web based business applications using C#, Java, JavaScript, ColdFusion, HTML, SQL (various flavors), and various shell style scripts. I have also created a variety of one off programs using Python, C++, Scheme, and a myriad of other languages. I have learned from many sources and I'm eager to contribute back into the system my skills and abilities.
