My tutoring experience comes from working with my student-athletes during team study halls and being available for my classroom students before and after school. Each student comes with his/her own learning style. I like to be patient but firm with my students so they learn the process, no matter how tedious or complex. I am a big fan of learning by doing, and I encourage my students to do the same. A good tutor works with their student to understand what it is that they need to do, how they need to do it and to communicate concepts in multiple ways in order to remove obstacles that are preventing a successful outcome.
I have a passion to show young people how enjoyable reading and writing can be with a little help and humor and look forward to working with students with a passion to improve their skills and understanding. Please contact me with your questions and concerns.
It's much more about my understanding what YOU need to do, how you need to do it and my ability to figure out what is holding you back. It's also about communicating the same concept in any number of ways, so every student can get it. This is what good tutoring is all about. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
