& Texas State University (Biology and Spanish)
Hello! My name is Sarah Jane and I look forward to helping you or your child find academic and personal success. I recently relocated to the Kansas City area from Colorado and am eager to accept new clients. I have a flexible schedule, reliable transportation, and am very qualified.
I have been tutoring for over 7 years through various agencies as well as privately. I hold degrees in Spanish and Biology. After college I enrolled in an alternative certification program and obtained Teaching Certificates for K-12 Spanish and 9-12 Life Sciences. I also have experience in informal education at Denver Zoo and Houston Zoo, which has provided me with the skills to work with students of any age or background.
I am motivated by watching my clients have those "light bulb" moments when the concepts click together, or by seeing the pride in the student's face when he or she shares an improved test score. I enjoy getting to know my clients so that I can make the content relatable and relevant to them, which in turn makes the tutoring experience more enjoyable for us both.
I have a strong foundation in algebra and geometry. In high school I received a 4 on the AP Calculus exam and a 5 on the AP statistics exam. In college I completed math courses through Calculus.
My proudest tutoring moment occurred when helping a college student who had failed college algebra twice and on his third time taking the course had a D about half way through the semester. We met twice a week for 1.5 hour sessions. I saw his test scores increase, as well as his confidence. He finished the semester with a B and was able to move on in his business degree program!
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and have worked in informal science education for many years designing and education programming in the field of biology. I am well versed in STEM practices from attending conferences and professional development, and am passionate about connecting students to science and making it fun!
I began learning Spanish in first grade and never stopped until I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. In high school, I received a 4 on the Spanish Literature AP exam and 5 on the Spanish Language AP exam. When obtaining my teaching license, I conducted my student teaching year in middle school Spanish 1 at a very larger school where I had 5 classes a day with 20-30 students each. I have also tutored many students in Spanish, and was an Instructional Assistant for Spanish 1-2 in college.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
