My name is LaTicia and I have had 5 years teaching experience in kindergarten through 5th grade. I pride myself in pushing students to set high but obtainable goals and reach those goals through hard work and determination. I feel that it is important to teach skills to a student that they are currently learning in school. In my experience, if you try to go back and teach skills that the rest of the class learned long ago than the child becomes frustrated and ultimately falls further behind. Don't get me wrong, every student needs to have the basics and with my experience, I know what those basics are and know how to get them beyond just the basics. I have tutored many children outside of the school day and can say that the majority of them do catch up with that extra push and attention.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a certified teacher for 5 years. I have taught 1st, 3rd, and kindergarten (3 Years) I love working with children and seeing the looks on their faces when the light bulb goes on and the finally "get it."
As a kindergarten/first grade teacher for 4 years, I know a lot about teaching phonics. Phonics is an essential part of learning to read. A student must know how to put words together before the words make sense to them in reading. Reading is the most vital part of learning and phonics is part of the foundation of reading.
I have been singing for as long as I can remember. Throughout school I was in choir and ensembles. I took private voice lessons and high school and went on to preform at the state level as a soloist and part of an ensemble. I took my love of singing to college with me where I was part of the collegiate show choir. I have the experience in voice and I enjoy teaching others how to refine and polish their voices as well.
