I am highly qualified to teach handwriting as I currently teach 1st grade where handwriting is emphasized to a great degree. I understand the importance of setting young learners up for success and with good habits. I believe that consistency and repetition are vital components to helping students write legibly and is pivotal to helping them succeed in all areas of the curriculum. Using various methods (paper/pencil, technology and analogies) helps keep student motivation up and has proven to be successful with my students.
As a first grade teacher, I know that fidelity and consistency with teaching phonics is pivotal in helping students become fluent readers. Helping students recognize the patterns in words helps them develop a strong foundation that will give them the strategies for decoding unknown words. With the use of blending, decoding, sorting and contextual reading of texts have all proven to be effective in helping all of my students reach a higher level than where they started from. I take a very structured and developmental approach to helping my young readers achieve.
