I graduated from Harvard (1994) and Harvard Law School (1997) and went on to success in the corporate legal world. Over the past two decades, I have been recognized for my expertise and talent as a writer, leader, and trainer/ teacher.

Now, as a tutor, I love helping students understand and conquer the skills necessary to pass the Bar Exam. In my view, Bar Exam preparation requires effective study of substantive law--not just memorization. Students must be able to quickly identify how a legal principle is applied. During the first session, I help students develop a study schedule that is customized to address their weaknesses and needs. I also encourage students to review the examples provided in bar preparation materials and to apply what they learn through practice questions--practicing with a purpose to ensure that they understand and can apply the substantive law they learn. Unlike bar preparation courses, I do not look just at how many practice questions students answer correctly. We use each question as a learning opportunity to address substantive and test-taking skill gaps. Finally, I work with students to address writing skills, as the MEE and MPT comprise 50% of UBE scores.

My goal for each session or lesson is to inspire and encourage, as well as to teach. I want students not only to develop their own abilities but also to have confidence in these abilities as they move forward in their lessons, testing, and studies. It is my goal that tutoring leads to more than just success on an exam but to writing and career lessons that can help students as they begin their legal practice.

I graduated in 1997 from Harvard Law School and Harvard College in 1994. While at HLS, I was Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review. I wish I say that I have always been a great writer; however, what I have achieved as a writer is not due to raw talent. I intentionally focused on improving my writing skills and worked to improve. I spent my career as litigation counsel at nationally recognized law firms and at large corporations. Most recently, I served as Vice President of Consumer Protection Compliance for a Fortune 200 global financial services company. In each of my prior positions, I have been recognized because of my writing ability.

I graduated from Harvard Law School, cum laude in 1997. I have 16 years in private litigation practice. I also served as vice president of a Fortune 500 publicly-traded financial institution, where I delivered at least a half dozen presentations each week. I was known for my effective presentation skills and surprised audiences by engaging them and making subjects like "Dodd-Frank Act Compliance" interesting and relevant to their jobs. My speaking philosophy is to focus more on whether the audience is connecting with the material, than on what they think of me or my presentation. In teaching public speaking, I employ this same philosophy: Students should be such masters of their subjects that they need not memorize a speech but can follow an outline and should be able to engage with the connective, charismatic "spark" of the audience.

Effective communication requires more than grammar: It requires crafting concise and organize language that presents ideas. I have extensive academic, corporate, and law firm writing experience, and I am passionate about helping students reach a new level of writing confidence. I do more than just correct grammar mistakes. I also help students draft better papers. I have assisted undergraduate and graduate students by proofreading papers, theses, and dissertations.

Bar Exam

I am a 1997 graduate of Harvard Law School and a 1994 graduate of Harvard College and have big firm, corporate litigation, and compliance executive experience. I am a member of the bars of Colorado, Georgia, and Massachusetts (inactive). In addition to test taking skills and more than two decades of practical legal experience, I also bring several years of tutoring experience. My aim is to help students develop their study and writing skills, optimizing their study time so that they can increase the bar exam with confidence. I tailor tutoring sessions to the strengths and weaknesses of each student, working with each student to develop the skills that promote confidence even for this difficult exam. I look forward to working with you.

Couldn’t have done it without her

I really struggled with the MEE and MPT and reached out to Heather about a month before the bar exam for help. In just a few weeks she helped me turn my writing into something that I’m proud of and confident will get me a passing score on the bar exam. Without her advice and encouragement I don’t think I’d feel as ready as I do now.

Game-changer Tutor

Heather gave insightful comments to up my game in solving legal problems and presenting my thoughts effectively. She has been tremendous in guiding me in thinking methods. In just a few sessions, she put me on a trajectory to elevate my legal writing and analytical skills to a higher level. I have tried a few tutors on Wyzant: Heather is by far the best. If you need a game-changer, Heather is the tutor to help you.
