About Maria

As a lifelong learner, I am committed to providing my students with the best practices in the areas of subject-specific tutoring, supplemental instruction and learning strategies/study skills. I have worked with students of all ages and genuinely have a passion for helping others learn and accomplish the goals they set for themselves. As former college student-athlete and college academic advisor and learning specialist I pride myself in teamwork and perseverance to not only accomplish my goals but help others accomplish theirs.

I have a background in working with students with learning disabilities and students who struggle due to lack of study skills/learning strategies. I spend several years hiring and training tutors and know the best methods in tutoring students to help them acquire the material. My background has allowed me to help students with diverse learning needs. I believe the student needs to be an engaged participant in his/her learning and expect my students to be active participants in the learning session. I am adept at using a variety of tutoring strategies to ensure the student feels engaged in the process.

I specialize in the following tutoring areas and subjects: Learning strategy instruction, Social Studies and students with special needs.

I received a BA in Social Science Education and taught 10, 11 and 12th grade students in United States History, World History, and US Government

I spent over 8 years working as a Learning Specialist at two major universities. In my role I screened over 100 college freshman for ADHD and other learning impacting disabilities. I am knowledgeable in strategies for students with suspected or documented learning concerns.

I was a college track and field student-athlete and hold a USATF Level 1 coaching certification.

I look forward to hearing from you and working together to set and meet your academic/learning goals.
