About Meghan

I've always loved teaching and tutoring, and have completed a Masters degree in organic chemistry and a teacher licensing program to teach high school science. I have been a tutor for more than 6 years, tutoring chemistry, organic chemistry, and algebra, and taught college chemistry labs for 2 years. I also worked for Denver Math Fellows, providing in-school tutoring to grades 6-8. Whether you are trying to get the grades to get into med school or just trying to get through the semester, my experience with individual and small group tutoring and teaching has given me the skills to meet your needs.

I specialize in tutoring chemistry, whether at the high school or college level, and math at the middle school or high school level. I am willing to work with each student to design a tutoring plan that fits their needs, but to all of my students I offer in-depth explanations of concepts, analysis of the student's own work to find and address strengths, weaknesses, and gaps in understanding, and extensive guided practice in the application of everything they are learning. I teach problem solving strategies that focus on breaking complex problems into manageable parts. Students benefit from my highly discussion-based teaching methods, especially those who find the lecture-based methods of many traditional classes unsuited to their learning styles.

I understand that schedules can be hectic and that unexpected scheduling conflicts can easily arise. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy I'm willing to reschedule tutoring sessions as long as I'm given enough notice. I look forward to hearing from you soon so we can get started down your road to chemistry success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I taught algebra as a tutor in the Denver Math Fellows program. I studied math up through vector calculus in college. I have been a tutor for over 6 years.

Chemistry

I tutored chemistry for three years as an undergraduate. I then taught three semesters of chemistry labs in graduate school. I also have a masters degree and bachelors degree in chemistry. I'm now working on getting my teaching license, which I will finish in May of 2015.

Organic Chemistry

I'm qualified to tutor organic chemistry because I have a master's degree in chemistry with a concentration in organic chemistry. In addition to requiring two semesters of organic chemistry as an undergraduate, this program included such classes as synthetic organic chemistry and physical organic chemistry, which expanded on the principles of organic reactions learned in organic chemistry I and II. As a graduate teaching assistant I taught general chemistry labs and helped students in all chemistry classes in the chemistry help room. I also contributed to two papers published in chemical academic journals on the organocatalytic polymerization of renewable organic monomers.

Extremely Helpful — I am a student who has always had a huge struggle with chemistry and I have tried a few different tutors, and Meghan definitely has been the best! She is extremely helpful in filling in the blanks that I miss from class or that the teacher forgets to mention. She also has been extremely helpful when it comes to breaking down the problem so that it is easier for me to solve. She tests my knowledge ...
