Hi, my name is Mat! I just graduated from K-State with dual degrees in engineering and political science. In high school, I enjoyed math and physics, which is what led me toward engineering, but I found a second passion for political philosophy my freshman year of college. I did peer tutoring for math and physics courses for a time at K-State and it was one of the most fun and fulfilling jobs I've ever had! My favorite part about tutoring was watching concepts "click" for my tutees. Together, we could identify and bridge the gaps in their understanding -- I am a very visual learner, so this usually meant I'd draw tons of pictures and try to connect them to real-world examples as best I could. Often, what I would find is that stepping outside the "scope" of the course material is what worked best to find these examples that would actually click for each of my students. For example, General Physics was a non-calculus based course, but, for students who had any level of understanding of calculus, the tie-in to calculus helped them better flesh out their understanding of the physics concepts -- calculus was invented to help understand physics, after all. I love learning about how things and the world work, and, to me, tutoring is a chance to help others do the same!

What I've always enjoyed about math and physics is the thrill of discovery and the interconnectedness of it all! I think this is what makes me a good tutor, because it's one thing to memorize the content, but it's another thing entirely to ask "why" it is the way that it is -- this is what I did throughout all of my courses, and what I always strive to help my tutees do in theirs. I have experience tutoring college-level math and physics courses in small group and 1-on-1 settings and, in every case, I first got a feel for what my tutees knew and what they did not, and then went from there to help them deepen their understanding and to fill in the gaps. I have found that this style works well for theses math and physics courses because, more often than
