Hello, my name is David. I have been teaching for 17 years. I have a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. I taught 15 years in the Kansas City Public School District. During my 15 years I participated in the Model Classroom Program, accepted and attended the Mickelson Exxon Mobile Teachers Academy for Science and Math in 2010, I was also a Math and Science lead teacher for the district. I also taught 12 years at Sylvan Learning Center. I currently teach on The Adolescent Unit at Research Psychiatric Center.

During my teaching career, I have taught 6th grade Math, Middle School Science, Algebra I and Algebra II, Middle School Self-Contained Special Education, and Elementary Grades 3,4,5, and 6. The benefit of teaching various subjects provides me with the ability to teach not only those subjects knowledge but instructional techniques and strategies to teach those subjects. This benefit makes me a valuable asset when tutoring my students.

My tutoring sessions consist of distributed practice of previous learning, instruction of new information, an activity where the student and I practice the new skill together, a check for understanding of the new learning and correction if there is a misunderstanding, independent practice, and a debriefing of the independent practice. One hour after our session, I will email a learning packet that the student will read and do. The packet will then be emailed back to me. I do this because research shows people often forget new learning if it is not reviewed in an hour. I will also email a different packet the next day, so the learning can stay fresh in their mind in between learning sessions. Also, I will help with the student’s homework. Help with homework and learning packets will not be billed. There will also be periodic assessments and progress reports.
I am available 6 to 8 Monday, Tuesday 5 to 7, Wednesday 6 to 8, Friday 5 to 7, Saturday and Sunday by appoint

Great Tutor!!

David did an awesome job on helping my son understand his Algebra. I am definitely going to use him for any of my son's Algebra needs going forward. I would highly recommend David for helping your child.

Very good tutor

Outstanding! He is very knowledgeable, patient, and understands what my child needs to succeed. I would recommend him to anyone that needs extra help with their children's education.

Patient, Creative, Clear

My son had a very positive experience with David on our first lesson. After a thorough discussion of our needs, he implemented strategies that kept my ADHD son happy and engaged, which is our biggest challenge. My son said the time "went by fast" and he "really liked the tutor a ton." Not the "cookie cutter" tutor, David has a very broad experience base helping students with a myriad of backgrounds and learning obstacles. His philosophy seems to be very comprehensive and covers not just academics, but self-awareness and behavior modification as well....we find that very refreshing and invigorating. We have high hopes that this will be a long term learning relationship ! Once we have more lessons under our belt - we hope to assign David the full 5 stars. :)
