Hello! Are you looking for someone to make a personal connection and build academic strengths with your child? I am passionate about getting to know children as individuals and helping to build self motivation. Teaching (and tutoring!) is so much more than just numbers and books. I will work with your child's existing strengths to grow self esteem and confidence. Often times, a child's biggest academic hurdle is their own negative feelings about their abilities. I am all about focusing on the positive, goal setting, and celebrating achievements!
After fifteen years of teaching in the classroom and tutoring in my free time, I have plenty of materials to bring to our sessions. However, I can also work with the curriculum provided by the school or even help with specific assignments. Finding new ways to reach students is my biggest hobby, so I will leave no stone unturned! I am also well versed in the common core standards and critical areas at multiple grade levels, so I can help build the necessary skills to reach success. Additionally, I have worked with students with numerous types of special needs including dyslexia, autism, developmental delays, brain trauma, and Down's Syndrome. It is my firm belief that every child is completely capable of learning and it's my job to figure out how to make that happen. There are no excuses, only solutions! Please contact me with any specific questions or concerns. Parent communication is important , as you are their biggest advocate. Let's work as a team to help your child achieve their personal best!
I am certified to teach math from pre-K through ninth grade. I have been teaching math for 15 years in grades 3-5 and tutored students as young as first grade all the way up to seventh. As part of my professional committee work I have studied the common core standards at multiple levels to better understand how they build on each other. I love teaching math in engaging and creative ways to reach even the most reluctant learners!
I majored in elementary education and triple minored in reading development, language arts., and special education. I have taught language arts for 15 years and am well practiced in numerous intervention strategies. I also LOVE to read and pass along my passion wherever I can!
I was among the first group of educators implementing common core standards into my classroom, so I have several years of experience with these standards. These standards had the largest impact for students in mathematics. I can help both students and parents make sense of these standards, as well as build the critical skills of estimation and explanation of thinking.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you think I might be the right fit for your child. I do teach full time, so my hours would be evening only during the school year but I am available nearly any time during the summer. My location for tutoring can be flexible. It is important to me that children get the help they need, so if there is something I can do to make it more feasible for you please just ask! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching with common core standards since the first year of their release. I have studied these standards in both math and reading at multiple grade levels to develop my understanding of how they build on each other. I am completely comfortable teaching both math and reading using common core.
