Fort Hays State University (Media Studies)
My love for video and digital media began in High School. Every time I had a chance to create a video to tell a story, I jumped at it. That was on VHS in those days. Haha. That passion led me to Fort Hays State University where I received a degree in Broadcasting and Video Production with a minor in Theatre. I interned two different summers in Kansas City, once for Take Two Productions and the other at Honeywell Corporation. Honeywell is where I worked for 13 years doing every aspect of digital communication. That included photography, shooting, editing, graphics, audio, animation. I have used Avid, FCP, and Adobe products for over 16 years and have shot on all types of cameras. SD, HD, DSLR, High Speed. I also went back to school and received a Multimedia Certificate from the Kansas City Art Institute. I currently do freelance digital communications for a number of clients.
In college, I produced my own weekly entertainment television show and directed the weekly newscast. I've been involved with students of digital media my entire career. I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and ages. I believe if someone wants to learn something new, or continuing their education....there is no age limit for a motivated learner.
While in college and working professionally I've also been involved and have held leadership positions in digital media organizations. I do volunteer work for FIRST Robotics, the KC Science Fair, and am actively involved in the Kansas City Film Festival and 48 Hour Film Festival.
I have learned a lot over my time in the industry and enjoy working with eager learners to make them the best they can be and to help me grow and learn as a tutor at the same time. The world of visual arts as a communication tool is getting bigger and bigger every day and it's exciting to be a part of that and help the next generation fit into it and find their way.
There are many people out there that have qualifications with all digital media. Many of them have more experienced than I do. Yes, I have Video, Photography, and Social Media experience and knowledge in my tool belt but what sets me apart is my ability to relate to people on many levels. I have a fun and positive connection with people which makes working together easy.
I encourage you to please contact me with any digital media needs or questions. I will be happy to speak with you. I promise I enjoy the process of teaching people and helping those that are eager to learn and get better. You've chosen an innovative and cool field and it's fun to share in that. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in broadcasting and video production from Fort Hays State University. I have been successfully working in the industry for over 14 years for various private and corporate clients. I have continuing education in digital media from the Kansas City Art Institute. I have also held leadership roles in local video organizations including two years as president. Through my profession and volunteering, I have lots of experience working with students and professionals of all ages. My most recent client is a local start-up that has hired me to do all of their marketing and social/digital media. I relate all of my real world experience in a practical way for tutoring. I'm very easy going and really enjoy working with students and having a lot of fun along the way.
