I have been teaching English as a second language and French for ten years now. My experience has mostly been with secondary (middle) school students, but I have also taught some high school language courses, especially French literature.
When it comes to second-language teaching and learning, no method has worked for me more than a comprehensive approach, involving all the skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Having learned a foreign language (French) myself, I understand the learners' difficulties and pitfalls- I had to surmount them to become a French teacher, so, my methods are learner-centered and I try to make my lessons to be work-fun. After all, the reason we all learn a language is to be able to communicate in that language, so there is absolutely no reason why language lessons should be boring or 'difficult'. Do have difficulty pronouncing new words, reading,or grammar? Then, don't wait any longer, the solution is within your grasp! Give it a shot! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
