Math, Reading, Writing, Test Prep, ESL and more! 25+ years experience
For twenty-five plus years, I have worked with students ranging in grade/age from pre-school to college and beyond. I have held teaching licenses in Kansas, as well as North Carolina and California. I have been teaching for over 25 years, in Special Education, English, Math, Social Studies, Psychology, and Test Preparation. While I have primarily worked with grades 5 through 12, I am happy when I get the opportunity to expand to both younger and older students. In the spring, I moved all tutoring to an online format, and supported my students as they finished this unusual school year, 2019-2020. Recently, I have opened up some time for in person sessions, held with all local health recommendations in place, but continue to work online, as well. I love to work with individuals who are planning a career but need assistance with the required testing. I've started working more and more with the GRE, MSAT, LSAT, Praxis, Accuplacer, and other pre-professional and professional tests, and individuals needing these exams for entrance purposes, or placement. HOW to take a test is my favorite strategy to teach! I have recently had the opportunity to work with early childhood/preschool age students up through second grade, and found that I love this age group as well!
I do not mind traveling, if the situation requires it, and prefer to work in an environment with access to plenty of reference material, such as a public library, or a location in which my students are comfortable.
I have acquired teaching materials ranging from grades K to College in all subjects, and would not need any additional materials provided, except for student homework, if necessary.
Learning is a lifelong process and I strive to help anyone who is in need, regardless of subject area or educational level. My flexibility and wide array of subject knowledge will hopefully appeal to you and your individual needs!
Excellent additional support to ensure success
If money were not a factor, I would be inclined to explore private school options even though SMSD is noted as a good school district. (Too many reasons to list here.) I feel fortunate to have found Christina through WyzAnt as she works well with my daughter and her tutoring is a supplement to the public school education that I can afford and is well worth the investment. My daughter is gaining confidence in her math skills and I appreciate the feedback and assessment of her skills provided by a highly qualified educator that is independent of the school system.Kim, 32 lessons with Christina
Friendly and approachable!
Christina is working with both of my teenage sons on Algebra. She offered a different approach than what they were being taught in school; which is exactly what they needed; to see it from another angle. My youngest has Aspergers and she is very understanding and knows how to work with his very literal perspective. We saw improvement after just one session! Both boys enjoy their fun, casual study sessions with Christina.Robyn, 7 lessons with Christina

Nice and well informed tutor on the ACT.
We have not gone in depth yet because we have only met once for an hour. When given the time I'm confident Christina will accomplish what I'm looking for.Luke, 9 lessons with Christina

Wonderful Tutor - So happy with her instruction.
10/27/2014 This was my daughter's 3rd lesson with Christina and she is feeling much more confident in her math lessons and completing her homework. We are so fortunate that Christina was able to take my daughter on and be her tutor as she had a super busy schedule already. My daughter is feeling better about college algebra, and I only hope that her confidence continues. Thank you Christina!!! 12/01/2014 After finally deciding to switch gears and focus on Math instruction in preparation for ACT and the SAT (Dec.6) I can only say how I wish we started this sooner. Math has been a constant struggle this year, and after we were unable to drop this course it was mutually decided to place my daughter's energy elsewhere. Christina has been wonderful in her instruction and my daughter understands and responds well to her. I am so glad we found her and even more so that she was willing to take another student on. We are going to continue with the instruction till semesters end, extending our original contract by a few more lessons as the routine and study sessions work well for my daughter. I only wish we could continue it longer. Thank you so much Christina. We appreciate you very much.Priscilla, 9 lessons with Christina
Currently Christina is working with our son to help improve his ACT test scores. She has been doing a great job working with our schedules and with the weather. She works with him from where he is and not on any preconceived ideas. I appreciate her willingness to work with him and start where he is and help him learn what he needs to so he can get where he wants to be.Carol, 7 lessons with Christina
Great Tutor for Our Middle Schooler!
Our 7th grader works extremely hard and is a great student; however, was having some trouble with Algebra I. Christina was able to connect with her right away! She is patient and has a wonderful, positive attitude that makes lessons enjoyable. Our 7th grader's understanding of the material has increased and the test scores have come up dramatically in just a few weeks of tutoring. As an added bonus, Christina has been able to help with Language Arts. I would highly recommend Christina!Sarah, 22 lessons with Christina
Great match for my two boys!
We picked Christina for a few reasons: her experience with ADHD and her expressed enthusiasm for helping kids achieve their goals. She is clever and has quickly gained a level of comfort with our two sons.Rachelle, 35 lessons with Christina
