University of Kansas (Computer Science)
I am a sophomore at the University of Kansas studying computer science and finance. I was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas and have lived my entire life there. I've always had a love for math, and I have tutored over 10 students in various math topics over the past 3 years. I began tutoring as a junior in high school, when a family friend reached out to me about tutoring her son.
While I initially tutored just to keep some extra money in my pocket, I quickly found that I got great satisfaction out of it. Seeing my students gain self-confidence and improve their grades is very rewarding for me. I enjoy tutoring because it is a great way to help others, and progress can be made very quickly. My approach to tutoring varies from student to student, depending on their current skill level. With some students, I go back over the fundamental concepts necessary to be successful, while with others, I challenge them with harder questions so that the questions they are likely to see on an exam seem easy.
I've always had a passion for math. I have taken math courses including differential and integral calculus, vector calculus, linear algebra, and discrete math, but also have a strong grasp on the fundamentals required to be successful in courses such as Algebra 2 and precalculus. I've received A's in all math classes I've taken and earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. With my experience both taking and tutoring different math topics, I can effectively communicate and help others learn.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me! I'm very flexible with hours and would love to work together with you to improve your math skills! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
