As a homeschooled student I was always allowed to set my own schedule and pursue my personal interests. This freedom of choice gave me the discipline needed to succeed at the college level and permitted me the opportunity to love learning for the sake of knowledge and to satisfy curiosity rather than quotas. As I worked towards earning my bachelors degree in Social Sciences I assisted other undergraduates in Political Science, History, English, Study Skills and lower level Mandarin Chinese. During my undergraduate career I had the privilege of teaching classes and tutoring private English lessons in China. Working with those students taught me a lot about different learning styles and what it meant to be an effective communicator. Then and now, teaching continues to be a source of joy for me. Helping others succeed and recognize their own passion for learning is a lifelong quest I have.
Beyond my work with college students I have worked in Kindergarten as an art aid. I have also worked as a camp counselor with elementary aged students and I've tutored high school level algebra 1 and English.
In addition to my love of the world of academia I have pursued a personal passion for cosmetology (most specifically makeup technique) as well as yoga, drawing and typography. I have practiced and honed passions into a viable skill sets that I have used at various stages in my life.
I believe that practice makes perfect and will assign homework after each session. I want to challenge students and make sure they are getting the most out of their tutoring experience in and out of the classroom!
I try my best to be flexible with students and their busy lives. If for any reason you are unable to make it to a lesson a 12 hour notice must be given. I'm always happy to reschedule at your earliest convenience.
I only meet in public places such as coffee shops and libraries. If you need extra quiet and privacy, I am happy to reserve a room at a library or civic center within my given 20 mile radius. I am more than happy to teach group lessons as well as work with a student one on one.
My goal as a tutor is to make sure you succeed at whichever subject we are working with. I want students to feel confident after our sessions. I hold myself to a very high and professional standard. If a parent or student is dissatisfied with their lesson they will not be billed.
I graduated with a degree in Social Sciences which includes both History and Political Science. As an undergraduate I worked with students in my department to help them understand concepts and models as well as develop study aids to prepare them for tests and make the material relevant to their daily lives. I specialize is East Asian and global politics and enjoy explaining our international co dependency and the importance of global relations.
I started taking yoga classes when I was 17 and since then have become an independent yogi who practices at home and sometimes in the park. I am by no means a master of the art, but I have a strong knowledge of the basics.
In my personal life I use yoga for exercise and relaxation. It has taught my a lot about patience and serenity. Each day I set out to be a little better than I was the day before. If you are looking for a place to begin learning about yoga, here would be a great start!
Art has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up I took an interest in art history and the vital role it has played in shaping the different cultures of the world. My focus tends to be on Greek art spanning up to the Renaissance period. While I appreciate modern art I truly don't know much about its history or its movements.
In terms of cosmetology I am all self taught. After a lifetime spent taming my mixed hair I have become apt at maintaining a healthy hair regimen. I have vast product knowledge and maintenance techniques to keep your curls healthy and looking great! Additionally, I have worked with many individuals on makeup and technique. As an amateur makeup artist I understand the need to know your skin type and comprehend staple beauty looks such as: winged eyeliner, the perfect red or nude lip, foundation matching, color schemes, highlighting, brow shaping and basic contouring. I love working with individuals who have never delved into the world of makeup to design simple and easy beauty regimens. Moreover, I enjoy spending time working with those who have a grasp on the basics and are looking to try more adventurous endeavors in the world of makeup such as contouring and working with cold colors on the face. I also go over skin types and how to keep your natural skin looking its best!
I have taken a few art classes throughout my life. Some during high school and a couple during college. I believe the key to teaching someone how to draw is to get to know them and their personal art style. My personal style is very cartoonish. I love Asian culture and maritime tattoos and they heavily influence my work. If you're looking to learn about the basics of light and shading, symmetry and proportion I would be elated to work with you to help develop your personal drawing style.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
