The Kansas City Art Institute (Digital Filmmaking)
My name is Sarah H. and I am a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Filmmaking and an emphasis on Visual Effects and Animation. Over the course of my time there I not only focused on my studies but I also excelled at assisting fellow students with their own artistic projects and films by doing casual one on one tutoring sessions as well as hosting a number of classes for groups of students with varied levels of knowledge on the medium from the basics to more advanced techniques.
With my tutoring lessons I cover all forms of Digital Video, Animation, and Photography post-production. This includes workflow, video editing, image alteration, composition, animation, visual effects, and more. I also teach on a variety of skill levels from beginners working with software for the first time, to those that are wanting to go deeper into the programs they are already comfortable with to learn specific techniques such as green screen, composting, or color correction and etc, as well as sharpening their workflows with tips on polishing projects and exporting it to be shown.
I am the kind of tutor that enjoys helping people work on projects to make them the best they can be, as well as teaching tips that will help the student as they continue to do their own projects and grow in skill in the future. If a student as a specific project or question in mind then I would be happy to assist them with their work, however if a student is looking to grasp an entire program or specific technique on its own, I would be able to create exercises to help them better understand the key concepts as well as throwing in tips and answering questions along the way.
I primarily work with the Adobe Suite including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator as well as Final Cut Pro, Windows Movie Maker, and IMovie. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated in Digital Filmmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute where I took multiple classes in camera work, editing, composition, and visual effects work. I interned at Bazillion Pictures, a Kansas City based film and animation studio, as a production intern helping on set and in office as well as an artist intern designing and animating for clients. I produced a short film and multiple animated shorts and have had work shown in the Student Showcase at the Middle of the Map Festival. I have also worked in Freelance for two years on music videos, web videos, and other projects.
