Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have worked with many students with ADHD, including my own children. I know many strategies to help students who struggle with attention succeed. I utilize a more hands on approach teaching to help maintain student focus, such as utilizing frequent movement breaks. I have taught many lessons using a Twister mat!! The kids love it and hardly know they are learning!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I worked for five years in a classroom with students with autism. I have a degree in elementary education and I am half way through a master's program in special education. I teach in a special education classroom and currently teach students with autism. I have many ideas and strategies to help teach students with autism.

Dyslexia

I have a master's degree in special education. I have many strategies to help struggling students. When I work with students with dyslexia I focus learning on visual and auditory modalities. I also make sure to introduce concrete and simple concepts first and then scaffold the instruction according to their pace. I like to use notebook paper turned sideways to help with math and have many other useful strategies.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a teaching degree in k-6 education. I currently teach k-2 students. I have extensive knowledge of the Common Core curriculum that is being taught in the elementary schools. I have many ways to teach students that makes instruction more engaging. We use stamps and sand to practice spelling. I have many hands on activities to teaching math and reading.

Phonics

I am a elementary education and special education teacher. I have received training in the LETRS program. I taught a small group all school year in phonics for my first grade students with emotional disturbances and some peers who needed additional support.

Praxis

I passed my Praxis on the first attempt. I took it only two years ago so I feel like I could help a student prepare well for this exam. I am very organized with excellent test taking skills that I could teach to another professional.

Special Needs

I am currently a special education teacher working with students with a variety of disabilities. I was also a para for 8 years working with students with special needs.
