My name is Alicia and I come from the Philippines. I am married with three sons. I am a certified and highly qualified teacher with an Adaptive Special Education teaching license from Kansas Department of Education and the Philippines. Before coming to USA to teach, I taught for 7 years in my country in a special day school as a special education teacher for students with disabilities. I have been co-teaching with middle school math teachers for 6 years and enjoy it so much. The 2 other years I worked with an English Language arts teacher, science, social studies and Transition Math. I develop IEPs for students in my caseload and conduct meetings where the team address the needs of students with special needs. Throughout the year I co-plan and co-teach with a content teacher making sure to implement accommodations and modifications of special needs students in order for them to have more access to the general education curriculum. I have also done homebound teaching where the student and I go to a selected venue so he can progress even if he is not able to come to school. During school days, I mostly do after school tutoring for students who need extra help with their lessons to catch up or go in-depth in their learning. Other times I work during extra-curricular activities such as sports activities, concerts, etc. in order to show my students that I am there to support them every step of the way.
I believe building positive relationships with students, parents, and other staff members all contribute to a child's high self-esteem and help them develop to their full potential. It is such a joy to see most of our students be successful and become more independent students as they move on to the next year.
I specialize in teaching elementary and middle school math including Algebra/Geometry 1, and middle school ELA . As a special education teacher, I had been trained to apply strategies or adaptive techniques in my instructions that will help students with special needs to have more access to the lesson content. I recognize that students sometimes struggle and learn at different paces but a little challenge will always keep them motivated to keep on and never give up.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
