About Elaine

I have had an 11 year career as a classroom teacher. I have taught Kindergarten for two years, 1st grade for a year, 3rd grade for two years, 6th grade for two years, and General Music for four years and a teacher's aide for one year. I attended St. Mary University in Leavenworth where I received two Bachelor's degrees in Music and Elementary Education. I received my Master's degree from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction.

I really believe Phonics is the best way to teach reading. That is the way I learned to read, I understand the process it makes sense. I get into teaching students sound and letters concepts through singing silly songs. Singing bridges the gap between short term and long term memory. The greatest way to learn anything is to give rhythm to it. It just makes it easier to learn something it to sing a song!

Because I believe that giving students a solid foundation in the basics is going to set them up to succeed in their whole educational career. The basics and fundamentals that are taught in Elementary school serve you throughout our whole lives.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Handwriting

I have taught kindergarten, first grade, and third grade and I taught using Open Court Phonics. I have been a teacher for over 10 years. I have taught one on one and in small groups as well as the classroom setting in which, I used phonics in all these settings.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Music and Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. As a part of phonics instruction, handwriting is key to develop good reading skills. To be literal, you not only need to recognize letters, you have to possess the ability to see if it is made correctly, and good handwriting shows you have good attention to detail.

Study Skills

I have a Bachelor's degree in Music and Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught over 10 years.
