About Karen

All students can learn, some require a nontraditional approach to stimulate and motivate learning. I specialize in helping students discover their roadmap to excellence!

There are numerous methods of teaching and learning. A learning facilitator discovers each students' unique motivator or interest that inspires them to ask why, or why not, to think critically and to seek more information on the subject matter.

My passion is the unique utilization of words, whether spoken or written. There are numerous methods of word usuage; poetry, oratorical, drama, song lyrics, prose and essays to name a few.
Words must be read and understood, writing requires clarity, and content should be concise.

I incorporate the use of phonetics. I have a strong sense of cultural understanding and apply it in my personalized teaching methods.

I have developed curriculum and taught students from pre-K through college, my student's ages range from toddlers to retirees. I love helping students find the window of light to learning.

I have a BA in English, a Master in Humanities and PhD (ABD) in Education. I am an experienced online college professor in sociology, a published writer, a certified K-12 substitute teacher and a retired college administrator who developed and facilitated residential summer camps in aviation, criminal justice, communications, environmental science, entrepreneurs and social studies.

My doctoral studies in research and education have elevated my writing and reading skills to a scholarly level and my doctoral GPA is 3.8 on a 4 point scale. I graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into national honor societies in both my Master's and Doctoral programs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I earned a Master of Liberal Arts with focus courses in philosophy, sociology, humanities, religion, negotiation and mediation, history and law. My GPA in graduate school was 3.89 on a 4 point scale.

I also have earned a Graduate Certification in Conflict Resolution and a Graduate Certification in Women & Gender Studies. These certifications and course studies enabled me to understand the interdisciplined relationship between humanity courses, student's perspectives and how to instruct most students.

I possess cultural understanding and utilize this skill set to connect with and motivate students of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. A direct correlation to social studies.

As a college administrator for 8 years I was a program and curriculum designer in communication, criminal science, technology, aviation, history, psychology and sciences for middle, high school and college students.

My PhD studies in Education focuses on curriculum, instruction, and assessment of learning methods, tools, and inspirational techniques that are vital to learning for all students. My doctoral research of historical, cultural, and educational subject matter has revealed the significance of social studies in education.
