About Martin

I have a graduate degree in Math and Chemistry Education from the Johannes Kepler University of Linz, Austria. After finishing my studies, I completed a year as a student teacher with exceptional performance, as attested by my supervising teachers. The following seven years, I taught math and chemistry at a secondary level (ages 10-18) in Austria, before moving to the U.S. in 2014. Since then, I have tutored on a private basis and at a tutoring center in the Kansas City metro area. During lessons, I give concise explanations as needed, but reserve most of the time for guided practice and application. My goal is to help my students develop thorough understanding and mastery, not just memorize a procedure. That way the subject will start to make sense and might even become fun!

I am a native German speaker and teach German to English-speaking students, at beginner through advanced levels. Lessons are tailored to the individual student's needs, such as, boosting grammar skills or improving fluency through conversational lessons.

In addition, I took violin lessons for over ten years and have experience playing in various symphony orchestras and chamber music ensembles. I teach private violin lessons at beginner and intermediate levels.

Teaching is my passion and I believe that learning can and should be a fulfilling experience. I am a patient and encouraging teacher and love to see my students overcome difficulties, gain confidence, and develop their potential. I look forward to helping you succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

As an experienced secondary level math teacher and tutor, I am very familiar with the topics of Algebra 1 and know what is often difficult for students. Are you struggling with any of the following: rational numbers, linear equations and inequalities, functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential), factoring, fractional equations? I am sure I can help you master it.

Algebra 2

As an experienced secondary level math teacher and tutor, I am well-versed in teaching Algebra 2 topics. Do you need help to make sense of systems of linear equations or matrices? Having difficulty with quadratics, radicals, polynomials, rational functions, logs, exponentials or trig functions? Is probability a challenge for you? I am sure I can help you master these topics and develop confidence.

Calculus

I taught calculus topics at a secondary level for several years and have experience tutoring AP Calculus AB/BC, college level calculus, and IB Math. Are you having difficulty with any of the following: limits and continuity, differentiation and analysis of functions, or antidifferentiation and integrals with their various applications? Let me help you master the topic.

Chemistry

I taught chemistry at a secondary level for eight years and am experienced with the topics covered in high school chemistry, including Honors and AP classes. I can assist you with understanding atomic structure and the periodic table, chemical bonding, chemical equations, stoichiometric calculations, equilibrium and thermodynamics, oxidation-reduction reactions, acids and bases, fundamentals of organic chemistry, and more. Let me help you with this exciting subject.

German

I am a native German speaker from Austria and have excellent oral and written communication skills. I have taught German to English-speaking students, at beginner through advanced levels. My experience includes online teaching and tutoring. Whether you want to learn a few basics for a trip, brush up your high school German, or need help with your college class, I will tailor lessons to your specific goals and needs.

Prealgebra

As an experienced secondary level math teacher, I know the significance of prealgebra as a foundation for more advanced math courses. Students often struggle later on because they never mastered the essential concepts of fractions, ratios, percent, linear equations, functions, or basic geometry. I can help you overcome difficulties and master prealgebra in order to lay a solid foundation for future math classes.

Precalculus

As an experienced secondary level math teacher and tutor, I am very familiar with the topics covered in precalculus courses. Do you need help with the properties of functions and their graphs (linear, quadratic, radical, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric)? Are you struggling with matrices and systems of linear equations? Let me help you master the topic.

Trigonometry

As an experienced secondary level math teacher, I am well-versed with trigonometry. I can assist you with any of the following: converting degrees to radians, solving triangles, understanding the unit circle, graphing trigonometric functions and their transformations, applying the law of sines and law of cosines, verifying trigonometric identities, or solving trigonometric equations. Let me help you master the topic.

Great Tutor! I would recommend Martin to anyone needing math instruction and guidance.

Martin has worked with my son for the past 2.5 months. During this time, we have seen a marked improvement in his overall Algebra II grades. Along with being a very humble and nice guy, Martin communicated course work at a level my son could understand and retain. We’re lucky to have chosen Martin as our Tutor.
