I have been working as a Special Education paraprofessional for over a year now with students part of the Jr. High and Elementary school. I work one on one with an autistic child, but have been given the opportunity to work with other students in math and reading. All of the students I work with are at such different levels that it gives me an opportunity to teach many different levels of math and reading.
I am also in school for Elementary Education with two years left to get my degree. Helping children succeed is something that is very close to my heart. Whatever I can do to help a child warms my heart and let's me know that I am doing good in their life.
I just went through a five-day training for Pathways to Reading and gathered lots of information that I incorporate with the students I work with on Reading. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
