I'm an eager tutor, copy editor, and discussion partner from the US but I've mostly been abroad since 2006, first in Germany and then Asia. I received my B.A. in International Studies in 2007, my M.B.A. in 2010, and I was in a PhD in management program for 8 1/2 years. My specialization was finance, but I focused on how cultural dimensions from researchers such as Hofstede, Minkov, and Bond related to business and finance. I took on finance as a challenge and to help with future employment opportunities and then I tied it in--as much as possible--with my interest in international studies. I took a year of intensive Chinese language coursework while doing my M.B.A. I also study French and I used it, along with German, for readings for my PhD. I love to translate/transcribe German to English and I can, if needed, translate English to German.

I began tutoring English part-time in 2004. I received a 120 hour TESOL certificate in 2013. I can tutor lower-level speakers, but I'm best helping with IELTS, TOEFL, and Aviation English. I'm also an eager discussion partner and aid for public speaking.

I received an A in Macroeconomic Analysis in the Fall of 2009 while completing my M.B.A. and had Current Economic Analysis waived due to prior undergraduate economic and accounting coursework. My PhD studies have involved years of analyzing, comparing, and contrasting constructs, measures, and models. They have also instilled in me a much greater respect for the merits of practicality, abstraction, holism, deduction and empiricism as well as comparing, contrasting, and synthesizing works. I enjoy learning and helping others learn how to reduce complex phenomena into measurable constructs and use multiple measures to come up with more useful, reliable, valid, and holistic understandings.

In Germany, I took four months of intensive coursework in German and also a German civilization course in German. I then studied German by myself. I read a short novel several times over immediately after graduating and I used a great number of German scholarly journal articles in my PhD. studies. My vocabulary is much higher than most people would expect from a non-native speaker and I probably know a lot of jargon from different fields of research that the average German speaker may not know. That said, I read and listen far more than I write and speak, so I have not had the opportunity to be corrected as much as native speakers of German and long-term residents of Germanophone countries have had. As a result, I may be able to help a lot with difficult texts, but I would be less helpful with areas such as talking about one's house or making small talk.

I'm not a scholar in this discipline, but I have read the bible in its entirety at least seven times. I have read the Analects of Confucius twice, the Tao te Ching several times, the Gita once, and I have read several other texts. I'm neither a specialist, nor a missionary, but I do have a fairly strong knowledge of Christian beliefs, arguments, and doctrines and I also have many years studying cultural dimensions and travelling that help me to compare and contrast beliefs.

I am happy to help people with copy editing, editing translations, translating (German to English), writing application essays and personal statements, help people with editing their university-level and graduate-level work, to help people prepare conference presentations, personal documents, and business documents. I am also happy to help people prepare for writing portions of tests, such as the SAT, IELTS, and TOEFL. My PhD. studies were writing intensive. Writing papers of dozens or more than one hundred pages requires a lot of organization in order to remain coherent and understandable, to not become repetitive, to convey the significance of one's work, and to keep a reader's attention. I had to try to understand or develop complex concepts and then explain those concepts in ways that people who were not knowledgeable about the subject matter could understand. My years studying foreign language have also increased my appreciation for the diversity of ways in which people may express themselves.

I have also tutored English off and on since 2004 and taught English as a Second Language part time between 2014 and 2018. Although much of my attention was on spoken language, reading was also a necessary focus as students would be tested for their reading ability when they took TOEFL or IELTS tests and, potentially, SAT, ACT, or GRE exams.
