I have been tutoring and teaching for over 20 years total. I started tutoring when I was competing my undergraduate degree, getting my degree in teaching. I have taught at the middle, high school, and college levels. I have taught striving students and ones who frequently enjoy academic success. Not only have I taught for many years, but I have also helped prepare future teachers at the college level. I have had the benefit of keeping abreast of the latest techniques for improving student learning. I can use tried and true techniques as well as old and reliable techniques to help students achieve their goals. Additionally, I work hard to be creative and individualize lessons to meet the needs of my students.
My graduate degree is in English as a Second Language. I have taught second language learners for 12 years in the public school system. I have helped many students in the past improve their speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. They have gone on to enjoy great success.
I have traveled throughout much of Spain and Mexico. I have taught Spanish and Spanish-speaking students for many years. I have taught Spanish I, Spanish II, and Spanish III at the high school as well as Spanish I and Spanish II at the college level. I recently renewed my study of Spanish in order to maintain and improve my own proficiency.
I am quite excited to begin tutoring again. Tutoring allows me to individualize lessons to a student's unique needs and I have access to extensive materials to help me scaffold lessons so that I can meet students where they are and help them get to where they need or would like to be. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a teacher for many years. I've worked with them to improve their grammar and writing skills, as well as many other aspects to improve their education.
My Masters degree and doctoral degree as well as the majority of my teaching experience are teaching English language learners.
