Purdue University (Spanish, Psychology)
Outside my 6 years of tutor experience, my passion for languages and sharing that passion is ultimately what makes me a great tutor. I understand that some students aren't interested in courses like Spanish. And that's where my ability to tutor differs from most people. I'm not just interested in helping someone get a better grade on their next Spanish exam; I want to see them get excited about the idea of being able to visit another country and engage in eye-opening conversations with locals. My plan is to make my students realize the usefulness of knowing another language, and expose them to all the benefits that come from it.
This transfer of excitement not only helps with better retention, but it can actually change how a student looks at the world and even how they view their other courses. My experience has taught me that getting a student to engage themselves in material as opposed to just studying material can create a huge difference. It's because of that reason that I've had students jump as many as 3 letter grades in the past.
I lived in Spain for 6 months while studying at their best ranked university, El Complutense. I was immersed in a room of Spanish natives where courses were all taught in Spanish. The experience was challenging, but rewarding as I became more proficient in Spanish than at any other point in my life.
Upon returning to Purdue University I enrolled in graduate level courses in syntax, and excelled in all my linguistic classes. I've taken 10 years worth of Spanish classes and tutored Spanish for more than half that time.
Anyone and everyone is more than welcome to contact me. I've tutored kids as young as 5 years old and students as old as 24. I'm patient and passionate and very easy to get along with. I understand that mastering a new language can be a daunting task, but I'm here to help! Judd has made himself available to us at a convenient time and location. We really appreciate him being available when we've needed him most. He eagerly asks for information regarding upcoming assignments, quizzes and tests in order to prepare a beneficial lesson. After just the first session, my son got his highest quiz grade yet! My son especially appreciates Judd using enough English during the lesson for him to completely understand the new Spanish concepts.
We have found Judd to be an excellent Spanish tutor. Having worked with Judd throughout the summer, our son believes he is finally learning Spanish and catching up after taking 2 years of online courses. Judd's enthusiasm for the language translates into a positive learning experience. As a parent, it is wonderful to see significant progress! I really appreciate Judd's detailed reviews emailed to me after each tutoring session. It is obvious he comes to the session with a plan and keeps our son moving in the right direction. They get a great deal accomplished in their hour studying Spanish. I have had several communications with Judd and find him to be very personable, highly intelligent, positive and an excellent communicator. He relates well to my son and wants to see him succeed. We are very happy with our experience and highly recommend Judd as a Spanish tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
