About Rasha

My passion for teaching started when I was in elementary school l; I asked my parents to buy me a board, and I used to gather my dolls and teach the lesson. To me it was a perfect method to study. I felt really good about it, consequently deciding to become a teacher.

I believe that the students are the most important factor in the teaching equation. He/she is the receiver of the information, thus the teacher has to focus on them and tailor the lesson to fit their needs and learning style.

Tutoring does not mean that the teacher and student have to sit at a table for an hour or more, in doing that, the lesson becomes extremely boring for the student. Activities have to be incorporated in the tutoring session to make it interesting and beneficial. Powerpoints, role play, and Apple Applications can be easily used.

I am extremely flexible with time, I will never end a tutoring session while I am in the middle of explaining a concept because the time is up. I attended multiple seminars on how to motivate the student, and have used some ideas that yielded very good results. I provide the parent with a teaching plan for each quarter, then we discuss it and reach a final plan which I start to implement. Teaching in not just about delivering the information to the student, connecting with the student is a very important factor in the teaching equation. Building a relationship and connecting with the student will help him/her accept the teacher, enjoy her company, and try to excel academically.

I attended IUPUI for my graduate studies. I graduated with a master’s degree in English, and a certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages. I am a licensed teacher in teaching English, grades 5-12, and a licensed teacher in teacher English to speakers of other languages grades 1-12. I tutored foreign students in middle and high school. I currently work at Brown Mackie College as an adjunct English faculty. Most students there are struggling which makes teaching there a rewarding experience for me. Looking forward to hearing from you to start my journey with your son/daughter towards success.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

At Brown Mackie College, I teach Public Speaking.
