I have been an educator for more than twenty years. My teaching experiences span a variety of subject areas and grade levels. From sixth grade through high school, having taught English, Speech, Grammar, US History, World History, Study Skills, German, chess, and more, my professional life has been dedicated to helping young people learn. As an educator in public schools, I have received ongoing training and have attended workshops and conferences every year to keep my skills current.
One of the high points of my career so far has been my selection to travel with an elite group of Indiana teachers to Germany. With the Atlantik-Bruecke group, I was able to serve as an ambassador for Indiana's education system, and to strengthen ties between the US and Germany. I was honored to represent our state and nation as a respected teacher.
Learning happens when students understand. Teaching effectively is not about simply telling a student what to do or to give out answers. My goal as a tutor is to guide a student toward understanding the subject and to become a stronger student overall. Learning is a process. Trust the process.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
