I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in Dec 2020 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. I started my PhD at Purdue University in July 2021 with a focus on chemical propulsion. During my college years, I served as teaching assistants for Physics 1 (mechanics), Physics 2 (Electricity & Magnetism), compressible flow and finite element analysis for the college of engineering while teaching different entrance exams and subject test in my spare time.

With more than 5 years of tutoring and teaching experience, I have helped students with introductory physics, calculus, upper level fluid mechanics and solid mechanic courses. On top of that, I also have experience tutoring ACT and SAT test. With a proper feedback loop between me and my students, they have an average of 15%-20% improvement in their scores . GMAT and GRE are also exams that I frequently tutor in. I always keep myself updated on the changes in different exams from year to year to ensure I provide the most up-to-date tutoring to my students. Other than English, I am fluent in Mandarin as well.

My teaching environment tends to be very relaxed but fast-paced. And I emphasize on understanding the reason why students are struggling with a course. Due to my experience as a university teaching assistant, I've also had experience modifying and creating syllabus for classes and discussion sessions to suit the specific need of a student. The reason I continue being a tutor is because I take pride in seeing the ripple effect of my students' success in higher level and future courses because they fully understand the concept in their introductory and previous courses that I helped with.

My area of study built me a solid foundation in topics ranging from basic algebra to multi-variable calculus. I can also draw from my past experience as a teaching assistant to properly convey the material to my students while giving them a relaxed and encouraging environment.

Knowing something and teaching something is different!! I am a well Experienced Science (Physics) Educator and a propulsion engineer from Purdue working on NASA's subscale rocket engine testing program with many years of experience in teaching Physics and truly passionate in what I do. I am very friendly and patient with my students and tend to have a relaxed class environment. I always get highly complimented from my Physics students and their parents who had great improvements in their grades and recommended to their friends. My students see a substantial improvement in their grades and usually end up with an A or A+!! My qualifications are: (BS Honors, MS, PhD (in progress)) : University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Purdue University, Purdue University Being in someone else's shoes who's learning for the first time, is a gift! Everyone says I am gifted in that. I have over 5 years of Experience and Expertise in teaching High School and College level Physics, Math Algebra, Precalc, Calculus and Trigonometry. Previously, I was a college level teaching assistant for two of my university's undergraduate physics courses. I am very friendly, kind and patient, also productive and focused during every session - my unique, logical and step by step teaching style is loved by my students. There has been countless times my students would say "Oh, Now I finally get this concept when you explain it like that, why didn't anyone explain it like that before" once I put it in simple terms for Physics concepts that they've been struggling to comprehend. I have worked with various kinds of students, with different conditions and learning patterns by individually, perfectly customizing to each student depending on their level of understanding and speed in explaining Physics concepts and working on practice problems with them. Thus I help them achieve their best Physics grades by deeply understanding concepts, not just aiming to barely pass the exams.

Patient and well-versed tutor

Tianyu quickly understood where I was at in my Physics knowledge and explained the electric field concept with an analogy that I understood well. He also presented the idea in a very patient manner that let me find the answer myself, making sure that I got the concept thoroughly. Very effective tutor and knows what he's talking about.

Best tutor I have ever used

He is the best tutor I have ever used. He is very understanding and can see what you don’t understand, he fills in all the missing pieces and breaks the work down into manageable pieces so it is easier to understand
