About Kayla

Hi everybody, I'm an education major at Purdue university. Currently I am studying Elementary Education; however I plan on double majoring with English literature, and then receiving my masters degree in English. Teaching and tutoring have been a large aspect of my life so far, and I would love to continue that throughout college.

I previously have had quite a bit of experience in this field. I worked all school year last year with a 5th grade class, specifically working with one child for the last semester. I also participated in small tutoring jobs throughout high school, helping the students in classes I had already taken.

I received a 35 on both the English and Reading sections of the ACT, 4s on the AP exams for both language and Literature. I have already taken many credits of English, and have received As in all courses. I plan on double majoring in English, and would love to one day teach High School English and literature. I've worked with a 5th grade class, and several high schoolers on their ACT thus far.

I am a big fan of English and other subjects, but more so I am a fan of school and tutoring in general. I am very passionate regarding these subjects and would love to help out anyone that wants it.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I've taken the ACT three times, and every time I received an overall 31, and a 35 in English. English is one of my best subjects, and I understand the ACT portion very well. I also studied this portion in my senior seminar, and learned many different tips and tricks to make the test easier, and improve your score.

ACT Reading

I have taken the ACT 3 times, getting a 31 every time, as well as a 35 every time on the Reading portion. I have always understood the portion well and excelled at it. However, through my ACT class I learned multiple different methods and tips for the test, learning how many different students learned how to excel on it.

Common Core

Throughout my past year working with my elementary school class, I learned a lot about common core. More so now considering I am studying them in order to get my degree in Elementary Education. Due to this I have studied the common core subject and the various rules and regulations, as well as the basic knowledge necessary.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been working with Elementary level students for many years now. Last year, I interned at an elementary school and worked with an array of students. While I did work most often with 5th grade, I worked with the entirety of the K-6 level students. Now I am majoring in Elementary education, learning everyday how to better teach Elementary students.

Genetics

Throughout my high school career I was enrolled in several different genetics courses. I received an A in all of these courses, and even continued my studies of them outside of class. I helped teach several of the other students the subjects and topics, as well as how to succeed in the course.

Public Speaking

I have had many different experiences regarding Public Speaking, enough so to say that I am a proficient public speaker. Throughout High School, I was a member of an academy where we would have to give countless speeches and presentations for visitors and judges. Because of this I was able to present my research at the capital to our congressmen. I also received an A 100 in my Communications/Speech class at Thomas More College.

Study Skills

I have always been a good student in the sense that I knew how to study. In addition to this, as well as teaching skills to several of my peers, my senior year of high school I was enrolled in a class that specifically taught study skills. Through this, I've learned countless different study skills and methods, as well as how to teach them to others.

Theatre

I participated in the drama program at my Middle School and High School. Throughout these years, I had starring roles in 4 different productions, did the makeup on 2, and worked backstage for all of the others. Drama and theater is something that I would like to pursue for the rest of my life, hopefully even making a career out of it.
