As a criminal justice and mental health professional I have continued and expanded my career to work with high school and college students on an individual level as a tutor. My professional experience includes college instruction at both the Associates and Bachelors degree level, military service as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, employment in security services as a human resources supervisor, service as a correctional unit manager who supervised administrative and disciplinary segregation units, and police patrol work on a local police department. I am also a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and Indiana Correctional Training Institute. I hold the following academic credentials: Bachelor of Science, Criminal Justice and Psychology; Master of Science, Criminal Justice; and Master of Science, Applied Psychology. I am currently a Doctoral Student (Doctor of Philosophy) who has finished all of my academic coursework in Clinical Psychology and I have only field work and dissertation left for completion of the degree.
Areas of tutoring expertise: Social science coursework in Criminal Justice and Psychology at the high school, associates, bachelors, and graduate levels. I have substantial background in policy analysis, corrections, policing, social science statistic courses (undergraduate and graduate), research methodology, and interviewing skills. I also am able to work on grammar, editing/proofreading, professional and college writing skills for social science students, use of Word software, APA (American Psychological Association)format and writing skills, and have substantial experience with SPSS software (Statistical Program).
My tutoring philosophy is very person centered and focuses on identifying core competencies of the student, enhancing current abilities, and identifying what areas the student wishes to extend upon to develop their mastery of subject matter tutored/instructed. It is thought one to one mentoring of a student can really refine not only what they are challenged to learn currently, but also what and where they want to go with their knowledge in the future. I offer both online and face-to-face tutoring depending on the circumstances involved, geographic location/travel involved in a radius of my home address, and what extent tutoring services are required over a period of time. I use methods that enhance or supplement the students current academic needs, progress, and demands, and it is common that quizzes, supplemental readings, discussion, and writing assignments are utilized in the course of my instruction.
