I have had an extensive love of teaching since I was very young. Although I have little to no tutoring experience, I would relish the chance to assist those who may be struggling so that they can achieve success in not only academics, but in life as well. As someone who was not ashamed to ask for help in my academic career, I can understand the vital importance of assistance in education, and wanting to strive to do one's level best.
I have helped with homework for years, from peer reviewing papers in spare time, to giving tips on how to craft a better paper, and general advice. I worked as an academic peer advisor, which sometimes required helping students with assignments. Nothing makes me happier than seeing one excel in academia.
I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Communication. which is a sister discipline to English. I have received glowing praise from professors for my writing prowess, and I have an extensive vocabulary, as well as prowess in spelling. I am an avid reader as well. I read at least a book a week, and I have always scored high on reading comprehension. English has always been a discipline that I have excelled in, and one that I love. The English language is a fascinating and rich field that I love, and I want to share that love with students.
I sincerely look forward to helping eager minds, both young and old, to learn and enjoy learning. I want you all to achieve success, and I relish the chance to hear from you! In our first session, Lorelei reviewed some of my writing to establish a baseline of my grammar. We discussed some parts of speech and sentences. She kept a good pace for the session, and was more than willing to stop or slow down to further explain any topic or question. She is very easy going and down to earth, but still maintains a high level of professionalism. Her degrees in communication have clearly made her wonderfully qualified to tutor English and grammar. I look forward to all future sessions with her. Also, her willingness to work with you should be noted. She is rare, in that, she's very flexible. She will also take on adults who wish to better themselves. I highly recommend and will review further after more sessions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a student with ADHD, I had to adapt and learn study skills to thrive and survive in the academic world. I parlayed these skills into two college degrees. I can work with those in a similar arena or those who just need a little extra help due to this experience.
