I have worked in education since 2011, when I fell in love with teaching. Between 2011 and 2017, I taught literature, writing, and creative writing courses across multiple institutions, including The University of Notre Dame, St. John's University, The College of New Rochelle, and Suffolk County Community College. I have worked in education since 2011, when I fell in love with teaching. Between 2011 and 2017, I taught literature, writing, and creative writing courses across multiple institutions, including The University of Notre Dame, St. John's University, The College of New Rochelle, and Suffolk County Community College. I teach not because I love the material but because I value the student connections and enjoy watching students discover new truths about the world and themselves. When I teach, I try and always work with lessons and assignments that I think will resonate with my students. I always try to make my teaching and the students learning as collaborative as possible.

I also served as a graduate associate at The University of Notre Dame's Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning from 2016-2018, where I ran teaching workshops for graduate students and faculty. After leaving Notre Dame, I served for a year and a half as assistant director for the University of Iowa's Center for Teaching. My favorite part of this job was the private consultations I conducted with faculty and graduate students. We worked on subjects such as course design, individual issues in the classroom, instructional materials, and, for the graduate students, job materials. I really enjoy working one-on-one with people to help them work through an individualized plan of action.

I have had many people, of all ages, tell me that they are "bad at writing," when, in fact, they were actually very strong writers, just not maybe very experienced in the type of writing they were being asked to complete (For example, someone who can write beautifully vivid images may struggle writing the more list driven resume form). I will help you discover and employ your writing strengths as well as learn the conventions of whatever writing task you are needing help with so that you are able to strengthen your individuality as a writer at the same time to complete the task.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As a teacher and assistant director at The University of Iowa's Center for Teaching, I have spoken in front of audiences ranging from twenty to over two hundred people. At Iowa, I ran two large-scale TA Orientations, which were so large that they took place in the ballroom of a major hotel, where wedding receptions are normally hosted. My public speaking approach is based on harnessing individual strengths, including quirks, which are what make us unique. Since I don't believe that any method of preparation is universal, we will focus on what works best for you, and develop a tailored plan based on your individuality.

The perfect speaker, writer, or reader, does not exist. We are all always learning how to better communicate, and collaborate with one another. I love helping others navigate this path toward better understanding themselves as practitioners of the English Language. I am the author of three books of poetry and have four degrees in English: a BA from Sarah Lawrence College; an MLITT from the University of Glasgow; an MA from St. John’s University; and an MFA from The University of Notre Dame. I have 5+ years teaching experience, 4+ years experience in workshop planning and educational instruction from The University of Notre Dame and The University of Iowa, and serve as an editorial assistant for ISLE, and Oxford University Press Academic Journal.
Literature,

Literature

I love literature so much that I have three degrees in it. I, however, hardly read until I was in the 12th grade because I never found any interest in the books I was reading. As a teacher, I work with my students on finding ways in which they can relate to an element of what they are reading, be it the characters, setting, or something more nuanced. I believe that it is through personal connection and exploration that we can truly learn to understand and appreciate a text. Though not every text will speak to you personally, I will help you find those anchors of connection that you can use to get a better hold on the text.
