Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame (English, Art)
I am a senior year student at Saint Mary's College pursuing a bachelors in art and English literature, with a minor in English writing. My area of emphasis in art is digital photo media but I also have experience in drawing, painting, and textiles. I hold a certificate in Irish Studies from Maynooth University where I studied Gaelic language and Irish literature and history. I have taught summer camp art lessons before and I hope to expand my teaching expertise to English. I aim to pursue graduate school in English after graduating. I also have an interest in teaching English as a second language (ESL).
During the summer time I am free anytime except for a few dates I have weddings to attend. I do not drive so I am looking for students who would be able to meet me at public locations I can bike to such as the River Park library, or even have a fun outside lesson at Potawatomi Park! During the school year am available to tutor on the Saint Mary's campus with hours depending on my class schedule.
When I was a kid, I struggled to succeed in school due to Attention Deficit Disorder, but I learned coping skills and turned my life around. If your kid is struggling with ADHD I will be an understanding, energetic, and empathetic tutor.
I am a two time winner of the English department essay award at Saint Mary's. No other student has won that award as a first year. I currently have a 4.0 GPA. My knowledge of literature spans from early medieval to late modern periods. I dedicate myself to ensuring my classmates get the help they need with their essays. I have taken many writing classes including advanced Rhetorical Composition. I pride myself with my clean, efficient writing style.
I look forward to hearing from you so I can help you or your child reach success. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took drawing classes for all six years of high school and middle school. As an art major at Saint Mary's College I have completed the two drawing courses required for my degree. I received a high A in both classes. I am familiar with all mediums of drawing from vine charcoal, conte, colored pencil, ink (the old fashioned way with an inkwell and calligraphy nibs), gauche, and of course pencils of all values and harnesses. I taught a 6 week day camp for kids 4-12 in which we explored all mediums of art including drawing. In terms of methodology I teach the principles and elements of drawing such as value scales and line techniques before jumping into drawing full pictures. I encourage any budding artist to draw from real life instead of replicating photographs so that they can train their eyes to do what the camera does automatically.
I am an art student at Saint Mary's College with the are of emphasis or "concentration" of my major being in photography/photo media. I am trained in both darkroom and digital photography, preferring digital. In the summer I take senior photos and shoot weddings. I recently received a $5000 SISTAR grant through my college to complete a photography project pertaining to Object-Oriented Ontology. I will finish my degree next year but I also hold two CEU certificates in photography from Indiana University.
