Hola! I am a native speaker from Puerto Rico. I am a Spanish teacher and I tutor students K-12 and university and adults.n I teach to my students strengths. I am a native speaker of English, because I learned English at age 3, which according to some theorists makes me completely bilingual and a native speaker of both languages!
I believe in teaching to the student's individual learning style, so that the student can achieve mastery and success in his or her chosen subject.

Special Needs

Dyslexia,

Dyslexia

I have worked with special needs students that have dyslexia in my private school classroom. I followed the educational plan, and geared my English , language and Spanish teaching to the student. I have also tutored students with dyslexia for over 30 years, since I was 16 and in college. I have taken Special Education courses in my BA, M.Ed, and MA in Spanish about teaching students who learn differently, especially dyslexia. My thesis for my Education MA, was: Learning Styles Theory and Multiple Intelligences.
Special Needs,

Special Needs

As a language teacher (Spanish, English and French), I have taught students with accommodations and Special Education plans, both at the private schools I taught in Puerto Rico (Regular English and ESL, grades 7 to 12, and college students), Massachusetts (Bilingual education and Regular English: pre-K and kindergarten, and grades 1 to 6), and Michigan (ESL). I also worked as a para-professional and a one to one paraprofessional with a 13 year old Spanish speaking student with epilepsy. I worked with him for 2 school years. I was also a translator in the Special Education team meetings and evaluations about his educational and behavioral needs. I, along with the school 8th grade special education teacher, created a goal oriented behavior plan which was modified according to his progress every 3 months. I also worked from age 19 to 40 part time or full time in university breaks, as a human services/caretaker/teacher aid in educational institutions that helped children and young people ages 7 to 26, as well as adults in group homes with developmental delays and disabilities. I have taken Special Education courses as part of my undergraduate coursework in Education, and my thesis in my Master's in Education was about Multiple Intelligences Learning Styles Theories. I am familiar with Mild & Moderate to Severe Special Needs students because I was an official Springfield Public Schools volunteer from ages 13 to 18 and worked in self-contained classrooms, with both bilingual and English speakers. Since my mother was a special education teacher, I was aware of these theories since I also edited her MA in Special Education papers and projects. As I worked towards completing my MA in Spanish, I also researched how to best teach languages to students with special needs.
