I have been a K-12 substitute teacher since 2005. This has allowed me the opportunity to be flexible enough to quickly tap into unique learning styles and circumstances. I completed a Transition to Teaching program at Indiana University, South Bend and am in the processing of finishing my M.S. Ed. in Elementary Education. I have worked with two SES Tutoring programs, one for Notre Dame, and one for Brain Hurricane in Chicago.

One-on-one/small group tutoring are my favorite teaching dynamics because it gives me a chance to really get to know a student and understand their unique style of learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with students that have ADD/ADHD in both a full classroom and small group/one-on-one settings. I can quickly adapt to learning styles. I'm very patient with children and can make the learning process fun and in conjunction with appropriate time periods.

My favorite story to tell is when I began the school year working with an after school program as a shadow counselor for a 2nd grader. His peers were uncomfortable with him and weren't sure how to relate to him. By the end of the school year, he was the most popular kid in the program, and everyone wanted to be his friend. He was the star.
