Currently I am homeschooling our twin boys who are fourth graders and our daughter who is five. We have a classroom in our home and it is well equipped for a variety of students. I can tutor in all subjects but my true love is teaching language arts. I am familiar with many different programs and believe in using what works best with each individual student. My experience includes 15 years of teaching in classes of students with special needs and 1 year as a reading specialist. This experience has shown me that observing children as they learn in their natural environment is the best way to diagnose their needs and determine what intervention strategies might work best with them. Even though our twins are identical, their learning styles are different and it has been interesting to develop curriculum that includes activities from which they both learn and enjoy, and with which they experience success. I have tutored all ages of students and many different subjects. I consider the best part of tutoring to be the chance to work with children individually or in small groups and tailor the instruction to their specific needs and interests.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught special education for 15 years. Many of my students dealt with ADD and ADHD. I learned different techniques to help students compensate for and use their impulsivity and distractibility to help them become better learners.
I am certified to teach Pre-kindergarten to sixth grade in reading and Elementary Education and Kindergarten to twelfth grade in Special Education in both New York and Virginia. I taught for 15 years in special education classrooms and 1 year as a reading specialist. I have tutored many students through the years as well.
I am certified as a reading specialist. I taught reading in special education classrooms for 15 years where we had to use many different methods for teaching phonics. As a home schooling mom, I taught both of our boys to read and they are above average readers.
I am certified in New York State to teach Special Education k-12. I taught students with special needs for 15 years. Our daughter was born at 24 weeks and has Cerebral Palsy.
