About Jacqueline

I currently teach 4th grade. I recently received my Transition to Teaching certification.

I received my Substitute Teaching License and I also hold my Paraprofessional License. I graduated with my MS in Journalism from Roosevelt University and my BS in Journalism from Bradley University in 2007 and I am confident that I can apply my educational and work experience as well as my personal attributes to the position that you all may have available.

I have worked in educational environments for most of my life. My most recent position was a One-on-One Paraprofessional position with Perspectives Charter Schools Middle Academy. I was in charge of monitoring the student’s behavior and coming up with strategies to better his behavior. I made sure that he got to classes on time, did not disrupt classes, and followed the rules that the school had set. I worked with him one-on-one with his class assignments and when I wasn’t with him, I was helping other students with assignments. I helped teachers keep students in line during class and I made sure that he (and other students) understood what was being taught in class. I was responsible for rewarding him and disciplining him when necessary. I worked with other students on class projects and when I wasn’t with students, I was in the main office helping the staff do other things to keep the school organized.

Furthermore, I worked at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy as an assistant secretary for the Admissions office. I was in charge of filing; data entry; creating spreadsheets for organization, and processing incoming mail, among other things. Even as a secretary, I still dealt with students especially those that were applying to the school for the first time. I explained the process and sometimes walked them through it so that it was done correctly.

In addition to that, I was an assistant instructor with a small after school program called Elijah’s House. I worked with students to help create and write a teen magazine. I helped students research and outline their ideas for articles. I helped the instructor teach lessons in journalism/reporting in order to steer them in the right direction when reporting. I helped students brainstorm picture ideas for their stories. I taught them what AP style was and how it guided their stories.

Throughout my college years, I was a part of many things: I served as a Coordinator for Bradley’s Activity Council. I was a member of the BU Media Society, and wrote short stories for Midstate Magazine, a student produced television program and one of my stories was published in the Chicago Sun-Times; nevertheless, I have always found myself going in the education field. I went to small charter school from seventh through 12th grade and I know that I can’t see myself in any other place than the classroom.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my substitute teaching license as well as my paraprofessional license. I am currently working with a first grade class as an aide and I tutor kindergarten students after school. I work with students on strategies to better the reading and math skills. I help them with language art including punctuation, sentence structure, alphabetical order and multiple other things.

Writing

I have my BS and MS in Journalism. I have been writing all my life, and had an article published in the Chicago Sun-Times in 2008. However, journalistic style writing is not the only style of writing that I do. I also wrote poems and short stories all throughout high school. I understand the different genres in writing and I know the different parts to writing an essay (thesis, examples/evidence, conclusion). I was also an editor for my magazine production class. I checked articles for grammar, punctuation and style. I know what it means to be a great writer.
