I know it may seem weird to many, but I absolutely love math, especially algebra. :) Something that I may love even more than algebra itself though is helping students learn algebra. It is my pleasure to help those in need, and I am very patient in working with students. I am open to learners at all levels and have no problem going back to whatever basics are necessary. When it comes to my teaching method, I am able to teach through straight forward, systematic steps, yet I cater to whatever my students need, and many times I find myself using "out-of-the-box" methods. I am able to tutor using current work distributed in class, or I am able to bring material to work on to enforce key concepts or reteach concepts in order so that the student is ready for the next level of material/class.
I have a degree in accounting, and I am currently pursuing/finishing my master's degree in school counseling. With this being said, I not only have the educational credentials to teach math skills, but also the heart of a counselor: patient, encouraging, and willing to search out the learner's needs. I achieved 4.0 GPAs throughout high school and took all honors math courses throughout. I currently work as a middle school teacher. I have tutored students "officially" throughout the past year, yet I have been helping kids in my church family when needed and have helped out students and classmates in math since my high school years. Also, I have experience working with students who may have some learning deficits or attention problems, and that is something that I am more driven towards rather than driven away from. I would be honored to work with that learner if that is you or your son/daughter. One of my greatest joys is helping to lead students in to an understanding of concepts and seeing that "Aha!" expression come across their face. I enjoy being around young kids because they bring me to life, so I look forward to the opportunity to work with you or your son/daughter. : )
In addition, I am open to discussing other subjects to tutor in as well, and I can also surely tutor any student learning middle school math concepts as well. I know it may seem weird to many, but I absolutely love math, especially algebra. :) Something that I may love even more than algebra itself though is helping students learn algebra. Katelynn is an excellent math tutor. She has helped our son become a more confident student and makes sure he learns the material that he is assigned and is prepared for his exams. She has a calm and friendly manner and the ability to determine quickly what the student comprehends and where to begin the lesson. She always checks to make sure that each concept is understood before moving forward. This way the student never falls behind. Because of her talent in teaching she has also helped to take the stress out of school. With her help our son completes all of his homework and is able to do his best in class. Katelynn is very capable of assisting students who need more support than what is given in the class room, and I admire her skill as an instructor. We have very positive communication and easy scheduling. I highly recommend Katelynn as a tutor for any student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
