About Maggie

I am currently a freshman at Purdue University, located in Indiana. I began tutoring when I was in seventh grade. I tutored math and science to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. When I was in seventh grade, a student moved from Vietnam to my school. She could not understand English, so I offered to translate her assignments and help her with her work. This compelling experience guided me to the love I have for doing all that I can to help others. I received the Dean Resler Award, a prestigious achievement awarded to one student every year for outstanding character and leadership. Once one receives this award, they can never get it again. This exposure provided me with a feeling of fullness that led me to find my passion for helping others. I continued to tutor elementary students throughout my high school career. I maintained a 4.5 GPA on a 4 point scale and was ranked in the top ten percent of my class in high school. Throughout high school, I took only honors, AP, Duel Credit, and ACP classes. Many of these classes are college level and I retained an A in all of them.

In high school, I was involved with many extracurricular activities, including Spanish Club, Student Mentors, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Varsity Choir, and Soap Carving Club. I took dance lessons for twenty to twenty five hours a week, and I volunteered every Friday evening at one of our local hospitals, Saint Vincent Kokomo. I also am a very active member of Oakbrook Community Church. I love to help people, so I do all that I can to be a productive member of society. Volunteering has taught me to care for others and put their needs and happiness before my own. Last May, I received the Volunteer of the Year Award from United Way, further inspiring me to give my time to others. Helping students to be more successful with their school work and enjoy learning is a blessing, and I have the amazing opportunity to be involved.

I took Algebra one and two and Geometry. In each of these classes I did astounding. I took Geometry as a freshman in high school, so when I was a sophomore I began tutoring it.

I took Dual Credit Anatomy and Physiology my junior year and got an A+ on both final exams and a 97 average in the class.

I have been excelling in memorizing all of the grammar rules since freshman year, and I often help other students understand them.

I am really looking forward to tutoring students who do not quite understand or would like to obtain a more in depth comprehension of these subjects.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have tutored students in this subject before. The result was raised grades, improved test scores, and a better understanding. I did very well in this class when I took it. I have been applying what I learned ever since.

Algebra 2

I have tutored several students in Algebra 2. Understanding Algebra is very important because the concepts never leave. Algebra continues to play a role in problem solving in all levels of math, so it is important to me that all students have confidence in understanding Algebra.

I took Anatomy as a Dual Credit course and did phenomenal. I helped many peers to understand the material. I tutor students who are currently taking anatomy, and they are doing very well.

Elementary Math

I tutored an elementary aged student in math every week for two years. I saw great improvement in her grades and confidence. The foundation of all math courses begins in elementary math, so it is important that every student understands this subject.

I am currently taking a college level English course. I help many of my peers to excel and be more confident. It is important that students learn as much as they can about structure for English so that they have a foundation to build off of.

Geometry comes very easy to me. I maintained a very high grade in this class. I tutored several students in different grades last year, and they all can take what they learned to further understand other math classes.

I have been studying grammar rules and integrating them into my writing for most of my middle and high school career. I understand them fully, and I have helped students to understand.

I took a Dual Credit Physiology class, and all of the material came easy to me. I helped others to grow their understanding in how the human body works, thus improving my own understanding. I am constantly researching more and more about this science.

Prealgebra is a stepping stone to algebra. Thus, it is important to ensure that all concepts are understood. Students need to be confident in their prealgebra skills so that they will be able to learn Algebra 1 and 2 well. I have tutored students to help them raise their grades and be able to feel comfortable with the material.

Being able to peer review an essay is important. The best way to do this efficiently is to understand the rules of proofreading, including grammar. I have studied these skills for many years, and I enjoy helping others understand.

I am currently in Honors Spanish 4. I received extremely high grades in all of my Spanish classes, and I have always helped other students to understand the parts that they deem confusing. My goal is to help other students raise their grade and their confidence.

Most every English class requires writing efficiency. Vocabulary, sentence structure, and content are all primary focuses when writing a good paper. I have taught many students to write structurally advanced so that they can better understand. I also have taught students how to make gathering information to write about easier. I love to help others improve their confidence.
