Landon's interests include international relations and TESOL (Teaching Speakers of Other Languages) education. He has worked as an English Language Development Specialist, Spanish Teacher, Director of English Language Learners, and an ELL Instructor. He has spent time abroad and is proficient in Spanish.
Landon received his bachelors degree from the University of Northern Iowa and graduated at the top of his class. After graduation he moved to St. Louis, Missouri and worked as a Spanish middle school educator for one year. For the next two years he took on a position as an English language learner educator at the elementary school level. After his time in the elementary school he moved on to work for the Department of Education in Missouri as the Director of English Language Learners. He now works with international students at a local private catholic college. He recently earned his Masters in School administration with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. Next fall he will be enrolling in an Ed.D program focusing on Literacy, Culture, and language education.
When working with tutoring students Landon likes to individualize the instruction and analyze the student's style of learning so that he can tailor custom lessons that best meet the students learning needs. He knows how to differentiate instruction for learners of all abilities and proficiency levels. He often utilizes technology and social medias to help bolster and support his instructional practices. students in his courses have remarked that the reciprocal style of teaching and student centered atmosphere has really allowed them to take ownership in their educational experience and has motivated them to be a life long language learner. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked and participated in the performing arts for the past 15 years. I am a 4 time all state speech finalist in the areas of improv, debate, and public address. As a classroom teacher and professional development consultant I know the strategies and skills necessary to captivate a crowd and I currently work with college students in the student success center focusing on public speaking and other strategies necessary to present in front of a large diverse group.
