Purdue University North Central (Elementary Education)
I LOVE teaching! I have known I wanted to be a teacher since I was 6 years old. I currently have been teaching for 7 years. I have experience with upper elementary, 6th grade language arts, and currently have been teaching kindergarten for the past 5 years.
I have had many tutoring clients with many different needs, such as struggling with phonics/reading, study help, math, and I have a lot of experience with students who are special needs or just have an unique learning style. My goal is to tailor lessons to the child so they aren't discouraged and feel succcessful, but challenged at the end of the lesson.
I am trained in a lot of styles of math that are currently being taught in school such as Singapore, TouchMath, and Everyday Math.
I have experience with the AR reading program, Daily 5, and DIBELs.
I am a certified teacher and currently am still teaching and tutoring for grades k-6.
I have a lot of experience with special needs students. I work a lot with students on the Autism spectrum, as well as students who have a specific learning disability.
Please feel free to contact me for more information or to answer any questions you may have. I would be happy to tell you how I could personally help your child and what a lesson for them would be like. I LOVE teaching! I have known I wanted to be a teacher since I was 6 years old. Jessica is great! Next to my son's teacher, she's my favorite. She's patient, kind, and works very well with my son. It's only been one lesson, but his confidence has improved. I'm so thankful for teachers like her!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated from Purdue University North Central in 2009 with a bachelors degree in elementary education and a teaching license. I have taught elementary since August 2009 including 6th grade language arts, 4th grade, extended day kindergarten, and kindergarten. I currently am still teaching as a full day kindergarten teacher. Throughout my teaching career I have tutored various students in many different subject areas.
As a kindergarten teacher at a Title I school, I am trained in many different teaching methods for phonics. I administer the DIBELs test and am very familiar with phonemic segmentation, blending phonemes, CVC words, and first sound fluency. Since I am a kindergarten teacher currently in the field, I keep up to date with the latest phonics programs and teaching methods through workshops and training.
