Ivy Tech Community College (Education)
I am currently in my third year of college majoring in education. I have always loved learning new things as well as teaching new things to others. I am especially passionate about English and History and have always had a knack for both subjects, and am particularly skilled in English. I spent all eight semesters in high school as both a middle school and a high school English teacher's helper during my study halls, grading papers and other various English assignments as well as occasionally proofreading things for the teacher I was helping.
This love of learning and teaching is what led me to my current occupation as a childcare worker. I currently work at a church sponsored daycare as a Pre-K teacher and I absolutely love my job. It is such a rewarding occupation and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Seeing a child's face light up when they finally grasp a concept is one of the best feelings in the world. I love working with kids and each one of my students holds a special spot in my heart. I truly just have a love and passion for the occupation.
I am particularly skilled in English, being referred to, on more than one occasion, as a "grammar Nazi". I have a full comprehension of sentence structure, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling among other various components of English as a core subject. I am capable of teaching others to write in both MLA and APA formats to include citations, as well as teach elementary school age children to read and write properly. I do that very thing day in and day out as a Pre-K teacher. I have always excelled in reading and love literature of all genres, and am fully capable of helping others to understand what they just read, piece together parts of a story, recall events from a story or chapter and put those events in chronological order, predict, draw conclusions, and understand some of the more complicated literature that students are required to read in school nowadays.
I am ready, willing, and even excited to help students in subjects they struggle with, as I find it an enjoyable and rewarding experience. My work schedule allows me to have my afternoons and weekends free so I am almost always available for tutoring sessions and respond quickly via both email and telephone. I can't wait to jump in and start helping! I am currently in my third year of college majoring in education. I have always loved learning new things as well as teaching new things to others. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently teaching Pre-Kindergarten and as such, in combination with my current education level in pursuit of a degree in the Education field, I am familiar with the state standards for not only kindergarten but other elementary grades as well. As a teacher, I have access to resources and teaching techniques that would be beneficial aids in this area. I also helped my sister with nearly all of her homework when she was in elementary school.
I was in concert band from 6th grade through my senior year of high school as a clarinet player and sang in school choir for 2 years, in combination with several years of church choir. I have a very good understanding of musical patterns, rhythms, and meters as well as the ability to read music.
