Manchester University (Elementary Education)
Hi! I would be honored to be your tutor, as it is my number one goal to help your child succeed. I am certified to teach all subjects from Kindergarten through sixth grade, and have had experience in all elementary grade levels. Throughout my six years of teaching, I have administered the I-READ 3, Acuity, and ISTEP+ tests. As your child's tutor, I will teach test-taking strategies, skills, and confidence to be applied to standardized tests.
As I do in my classroom on a daily basis, I will find the best and easiest way possible for your student to learn and remember information. I love seeing that spark when one of my students understands a concept, and I hope to help ignite that same spark with your child! Hi! Our son has worked with several tutors and Katherine by far is the best tutor that has worked with our son.
My daughter had her first tutoring session with Katie last night and she gave me great feedback! She felt very comfortable with her and seemed to get a lot of work accomplished during their hour together. She didn't like the idea of having a tutor at all so for her to actually enjoy the session really says a lot about how Katie interacted with her. I know my daughter was confused on some math problems but Katie was very patient with her and showed her how to do them a couple of different ways. We will continue seeing Katie for as long as my daughter needs help. I highly recommend her services!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played on organized teams from 5th-10th grade, along with many summer camps, leagues, and tournaments. I was a coach at a local intermediate school recently, coaching 5th and 6th grade girls for a year, and 7th and 8th grade girls for two years. Basketball is a passion of mine and I would love to work one-on-one to help with dribbling, shooting, passing, or defense skills.
I am licensed in all subjects in grades K-6. I have had experience teaching full-time in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6, and I did student teaching in grade 2. Before my full-time teaching began, I did substitute teaching and gained experience in grades K and 1.
I am currently a 3rd grade teacher who teaches a 60 minute Math block every day. I teach the basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) but also the PROCESS of getting to the answer. I focus on teaching how to attack word problems, as well as place value, fractions, decimals, money, measurement, and many more skills.
I am currently a 3rd grade teacher who teaches a 90 minute Reading block every day. In my guided reading group, I focus on word recognition, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, retelling, reading responses, and much more.
I played Varsity tennis for 3 years in high school and was a member of the Women's tennis team at Manchester University. I was the Head Coach for the JV and Varsity girls' tennis team at a local high school in 2010.
